I've lived in Chicago for 3 years now and would kill to be in SoCal.
I am just so tired of the weather here. It snowed on Halloween and also snowed yesterday. That is just way too long a period of shitty weather.

Think that was the point of this thread....

Yes, the weather is fantastic.
Yes, you have the ocean and mountains all in an easy drive.
Yes, you have incredible diversity of food, cultures, and people.
Here's what they don't tell you:
-- EVERYWHERE you go, you will be in heavy traffic. Coming home is always worse than going.
-- EVERYTHING you do, will be twice as expensive that you think it will and should be. Even going to the beach is expensive.
-- Speaking of the beach, the water is cold and polluted. Even in the summer, the water is cold. And it is always cloudy, and most of the time there are swimming advisories somewhere along the coastline due to city runoff causing harmful bacteria.
-- You will NOT socialize with your neighbors. That's just weird there.
For a single person 20-30 ish… yeah, I can see the allure.
For anyone wanting to start or grow a family, it sucks. There simply is no way to describe the quality of life differences between living in a congested SoCal city versus a Southern city.
Do not listen to any of this nonsense
Diego is the goat for your age

guess my real question is what are some of the underrated cities out there
Since most of the other posts focus on the well known "top 10 places to live in your 20's" I'll throw out a few underrated/lesser known, especially if you like outdoors.
Bend
Boise
Bishop
Flagstaff
Santa Fe
Durango
Grand Junction
Whitefish
Salt Lake City
Moab
Chattanooga
Asheville
Charleston, Nashville, San Diego, Austin, Denver is where everyone goes in their 20s.
If you haven't spent much time out west, truly enjoy the outdoors, have the flexibility of remote working, and can afford it... Go west young man. Spend a year or three, it will likely change your outlook on life and you will meet a totally different crowd than back east.
After a couple of years you will either never want to leave or be ready to head home to the south with some great experiences and stories.

If you prefer the outdoors over the bar scene and nightlife then I agree. Not to say there isn't nightlife because there is, but most locals are typically calling it an early night in prep for some type of outdoor objective the next day and life revolves around outdoor recreation type hobbies

Short answer: NYC easily
I moved from NO to Boston in my mid 20s. I had the best time. It was awesome. Made some great friends. I then moved to NYC in my mid 30s with kids. We had a great time and made great friends, but a very different experience at very different phase of my life. I imagine if I moved to NYC instead of Boston my 20s experience would have been similar but 10x.
I see Denver on a few people’s list. No way! It’s not a cool city comparatively. Boulder, sure if you have to be in a decent sized city. But if you are moving to your 20s mainly for outdoors, just move to Telluride/Jackson Hole/etc.

Charleston, Nashville, Austin, and Tampa ...the forgotten gem.
Austin is getting too weird lately...but still nice.

What about Greenville? I think I have an offer coming over there and I've heard it's nice but never been and didnt see it mentioned here

To be fair, the snow from two days last week melted in a half-day, so it wasn’t all that bad. Days around it have all been in the mid-40s and 50s. For me personally, it has been difficult to complain about this winter in Chicago. Compared to years past, it has been pretty favorable. 2013-14 is, by far, the worst winter I’ve ever experienced.

Greenville is a nice place to settle down, as is Chattanooga. I'd prefer a bigger city if I were single and 30 though. Dating/social circles are small in these places.

Would suggest looking at the PNW
Boise,Bend,Portland,Spokane
Would highly suggest staying in an Airbnb for a week or two before you decide which city you're moving to
Denver and the suburbs like golden and fort Collins may be worth looking into
Reddit has plenty of info on this, just Google moving to _____ reddit

I've lived all across the US starting in Hawaii out of college and loved DC the most. I highly recommend it.

Clarendon is where it's at, lol.
I moved to Arlington when I was 28 and single. It was fantastic... and the NOVA/DC area has a ton more to do now than it did 10 years ago.
I now have a family, so the bar-hopping, Nats games (city time) and lazy river tubing along the Shenandoah (outdoor time) have transitioned to museums, kid-friendly activities, camping in Shenandoah, hiking, kid-and-dog-friendly wineries and breweries (there are a ton of them).
It's a great place to be and you're already here.

damn near perfect here. i'm south of nashville on almost 3 acres and you can't beat the quality of life here. weather is great, you can head into nashville if you want entertainment or just chill in the country and nobody will bother you.
i shoot guns in my backyard which pisses off miley's security guards. they send a drone over my house to see what's going on.
