I’m partial to Lucali. But you’re gonna have to wait in line and it’s cash only

Good pizza ain’t hard to find though

Midtown is probably your best bet. It's pretty centrally located to the normal Manhattan things to see and do. If you want to be closer to Brooklyn, Tribeca, Soho, or Lower Manhattan. It's really not that difficult yo get to Brooklyn from Midtown though.

Except Midtown will drive you crazy with the effing crowds. We have an office there and I can be there for about 2 days and I'm ready to hip check people.

That said, it is centrally located, you're close to MSG and the Empire State Building...but there are a lot of better neighborhoods.

Long Island city merits consideration if on a budget and you don’t want your hotel in the middle of all the crowds.

Fair point, but is it really a problem on a long weekend? We haven't stayed in Midtown in a while, so not sure. I only mentioned it for its convenience.

I prefer Soho or Chelsea.

If you are going in the summer, sans Memorial or 4th, everyone leaves the city on the weekend

It's probably fine for that. Soho and Chelsea are really nice too.

Like many ITT I love Brooklyn, but in terms of what a tourist would be visiting, there's not a lot over there. Somewhere in Manhattan is probably the right play, and then if you want to bounce over to Brooklyn for an afternoon you can pretty easily do so.

In Manhattan I would stay on central park or down by gramercy/union sq/madison. Soho/Chelsea would be fine too but its more boutique there.

Brooklyn has much less hotel options, you are probably looking at an airbnb.

Williamsburg/Greenpoint has some boutique hotel options that are nice and $$$ (wythe, hoxton, william vale). The only other hotel I might consider staying at would be the marriott at brooklyn bridge but its nothing great.

I don't see any reason to stay in times sq. "convenience" is not a reason, everywhere is generally convenient.

Head to the Village; if you want an entire pizza, go to John's of Bleecker; if you want slices, hit Bleecker Street Pizza.

central park

I stayed at the hyatt on 57th St. right by central park last time I went, and I used the subway to get all over town very easily.

Joining this thread as we will be doing a long weekend in NYC in September. Looks like it's much easier to find a reasonable place to stay in Brooklyn..how much of a hassle is it to get to Manhattan, will the cost of cabs/ubers/subways balance out of we had just stayed in Manhattan?

If you stay in Brooklyn, my guess is your hotel would either be in the downtown area or Williamsburg. It’s no hassle getting into Manhattan from either — you won’t need need Uber/Lyft/Taxi. Manhattan is completely accessible via MTA.

wherever you stay in NY, you'll most likely want to buy a metro pass, rather than paying per ride. if you just stick with metro rides, it really won't cost you more to stay in brooklyn than had you stayed in manhattan as transfers are free.

Upper East Side. Plenty of restaurants and bars. 2 subway lines now that the 2nd ave Line is finally done.

UES is quieter and less busy than the rest of manhattan. But you’re still close to Central Park and it’s quicker to get to the rest of the city than versus from Brooklyn. It’s also the shortest uber from LGA.

Book a room at the Carlyle and enjoy the UES.

For a first time visit I would stay in Midtown. After that stay in Lower/Downtown Manhattan or Williamsburg. Somewhere near Union Square is a good central location but still be away from most touristy places.

Best pizza is at Juliana's
