For that I would say plane, unless you have places you want to stop along the way. But if you need to get from Barcelona to Paris in a hurry, its a plane all day. Its about 12 hours by train.

Plane. Planes are cheap in Europe between major cities.

I did it by train. It takes about 6 hours but it is a direct trip that drops you off at Gare de Lyon in downtown Paris. I preferred that to dealing with the airport.

Not nearly that long. More like 6. I did it a few years ago.

You are likely mistaken. Unless there is some direct TGV which isnt showing up on the internet.

Looking right now. There is a high speed train between the two that can do it in a little over 6 hours.

6 hrs 25 mins by train. I’d probably pick train over plane, as you’ll only save about 2-3 hrs by flying, accounting for transit to airport, early arrival at airport, and transit from airport to city center on the other end.

For train travel in Europe, The Man in Seat 61 is the best source. Here’s his 411 on trains between those 2 cities: LINK

I would likely say train. Calculate the cost and time by door to door, not just the cost of the airfare and flight time. Getting to the airport, security, back from the airport, etc. costs a lot of time and money. Plus delays are potential. Trains are rarely delayed.

I'm not a huge train guy by any means. But 2-6 ish hour train rides are a very nice compared to flights. Usually easier and less stressful.

Depends on which French labor union is on strike at the time. I think they all are right now.

Stand corrected.

However, a Vueling Air flight will set you back $34. One way TGV is 170 Euros.

$34, plus cab fare or metro/RER fare on either end. I’d still take the train.

Of course, some of this depends on OPs origin point in Barca and intended destination within Paris. If he’s saying steps from a train station, or way outside the city far from the airport, or at an airport hotel, etc. Easier can depend greatly on proximity to airport or train station.

Its not just they money imo, if you are on vacation its about enjoyment and reduced stress. 'Quick flights" are rarely that, and rarely super easy. You just add so many moving parts by flying.

A 6.5 hour train ride can be very enjoyable especially if you are within reasonable distance to the train stations to your destination, compared to the airports being a good distance away.

There's also very likely an overnight train available for someone that would be interested in that. 8+ hour train, sure a flight probably makes a lot more sense unless you overnight.

Train isn’t a bad option at all considering you have to travel to an airport and then from an airport to the city of destination. Just measure up the times. Trains range from 6ish hours to 8.

I really do enjoy flying and visiting foreign airports but I did take a train from Barcelona to Madrid and it was a nice experience. Guess it would be something you can at least say you did.

Yeah, it’s borderline and probably depends on the times available.

We took a train from Barcelona to Sevilla and that was enjoyable. There was a lounge car you could stand up, socialize and drink in. That made the trip go by pretty fast.

For me, it’s an easy choice: train.

It’s so much easier. No hassles with security, bags, waiting in line. Plus way more comfortable, easy to move and stretch and walk, big comfortable seats, quieter and something to see outside the window. There would have to be a massive time savings to fly. And when you add in the transit from the airport, arriving way early to get through security and board, and general farting around, a 6 hour train ride is far better.
