You guys convinced me to make the Barcelona trip happen so I’ll be needing hotel recommendations. I’ll be there for two days in December.
I looked up old posts from here and it seems like the Eixample was favorite area to stay for most. Are there hotels or airbnb’s with a lot of character/historical feel?

La Sagrada, Gothic Quarter, El Born Neighborhood, La Boqueria were the sights we planned on seeing while there. Any other “can’t miss” experiences?

Any foods or restaurants we should try? We usually prefer local mom-and-pop type places.

I appreciate all the help!

Las Ramblas. Wander around most of the day, just grazing. I think we were there for almost six hours, my kids had their first oysters there (well, one of them kept it down, lol.)

I stayed here this year, in the Poblenou. If you scroll down to the picture of the tree lined street outside the hotel, imagine it full of hundreds of tables in front of cafes/bars for more than a half a mile. I went in the summer, and it was full of people walking to the beach all day long. The location was really convenient, you could try looking for AirBnB's around there. Tons of bakeries, chocolate shops, etc.

Beware, though, not all the residential buildings have functioning elevators. For two days, with cleaning fees and stuff, a hotel is probably better anyway.

ETA: My OT Baller friends really loved Cal Pep to eat.

We stayed at the Hotel Claris a few years ago and it was incredible! It’s just a short walk to a really cool restaurant area called El Nacional.

I like the K&K Picasso Hotel. Great location from which to explore El Born and the Gothic Quarter and about a 10 minute walk from Las Ramblas.

Favorite restaurants-

Tast Ller
Small place with a set tasting menu. Fantastic food.

Tapeo
Modern and lively gourmet tapas bar.

Arcano and Llambeer are two very good restaurants with a tapas style menu.

All are an easy walk from the hotel.

I used to be there a lot for work. I always stayed in Gracia, just west of Eixample. A very nice and quiet area five minutes from the nice shops and food in Eixample. I prefer Hotel Pol & Grace but it's not a fancy place, just clean and efficient with a cool roof deck.

Eat at Barra Alta (make reservations, ensure they are in BCN not Madrid), Casa Fuster, Casa Marza, lots of good local joints. Barra Alta is absolute tops.

Have stayed at the El Palace, Gerard Mate, and an Airbnb in the gothic. All very convenient just depends on what you want to spend. El Palace has an awesome rooftop pool/bar with incredible views of city including Sagrada Familia.

So many great places to eat but here are some favorites.

Tapas 24
Mosquito
Canate
Cinq Sentits
Cal pep
Quimet y Quimet
Parking Lot Pizza/Pita

Sips is a bar that just won best bar in the world. Haven’t been but it into cocktails may want to try.

My wife and I stayed at The Corner Hotel for our honeymoon...smaller boutique hotel in the Eixample district.

I rented an apartment in Barceloneta. Near beach but very close walk to the Gothic Quarter. Really enjoyed it and it was very inexpensive.
Had a lot of great tapas bars in area.

We stayed at the Petit Palace Boqueria Garden the last time we were there and had a great experience, though this was pre-Covid so I can't speak to the hotel after.

In the heart of the Gothic Quarter a few blocks from La Rambla

Llambeer

We ate there and loved it. They were very accommodating and helpful with my wifes butter allergy.

I know, of all things to be allergic to.

Yes, Llamber was excellent, and it was right around the corner from our hotel.
It is one of two places I have ever had real boudin noir (fresh dark blood sausage) the other being a little bistro in Paris. A delicious dish when done by an expert.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions, everyone. We are booking the Corner hotel or the Petit Palace tonight.
We only have 2 days so I’ll have to be efficient with the restaurants. I think I’ll make a list of the “must try foods” and then find local restaurants that do those well. All the ones mentioned above will be on the list for sure

I recommend the Majestic Hotel. LINK LINK

TripAdvisor gives it a 100/100 for walking, great location, great rooms, great restaurants and bars, great rooftop pool. This one really has it all, IMHO.
