The wife and I live in Dallas now and we've never been to Arkansas. Thinking of taking a 3-4 day trip this February.

Where should we go? What should we do? Hot Springs looks ok, but not enough for 3-4 days.

The west and Northwest portions of the state are the place to go.

Check out the State Parks websites and book a room at the lodges in the parks. Most have cabins also.

Wilhemmina, Petit Jean, Mt. Magazine and Degray Lake are really nice.

Especially if hiking and outdoors is something you enjoy.

Hot Springs is good for a day.

Travel Highway 6 if you want scenery.

Buffalo River is pretty awesome.

Go hike Whitaker Point/Hawksbilll Crag. Check out Eureka Springs. If you delay until March/April, you could kayak/canoe the Buffalo River

Driving? Ok with more driving once there?

Get a VRBO in Bentonville or Eureka Springs

-Day 1: Crystal Bridges + nearby trails + local brewery + dinner downtown Bentonville

-Day 2: Drive to Compton or nearby and pick a Buffalo River trail. Hawksbill, Hemmed in Hollow, or Goat Trail.

-Day 3: Outdoors: Rent a mountain bike in Bentonville OR visit Pea Ridge Military Park or Float White River near Beaver Lake.

Petit Jean is the best.
Great Lodge, waterfall, grotto hike is awesome.
Bike trails, lake with boat rentals and canoes.
Pool and campground.
Car museum is down the road.
The view at sundown from the on the lodge is amazing

If you are in Bentonville area and like coffee check out Onyx Coffee some great stuff. One of their baristas was #2 in the world competition.

If you want a more urban place with good hiking nearby then Fayetteville/Bentonville is a good choice.

Eureka Springs is a pretty good haul from Dallas and honestly, not that great.

Mena is a small town in the mountains with Queen Wilhelmina State Park nearby with lots of hiking, paddling, mountainbiking. There are also some nice drives such as Talimena Scenic Byway.

OP, unless your only goal for the trip is outdoor stuff, don't plan your trip around Mena.

February has been our coldest month in recent years so the only water activity I would recommend is trout fishing on the White River.

Yea, I thought I implied it was more rural but there isn't much to do in town.

Go to the Ozark Folk Festival in Mountain View. Book room now. Bluegrass bands playing all around the town square. Eat breakfast at the Rainbow cafe and enjoy music for 3 days. Go to the Ozark Folk center village for a look at our old mountain heritage. A strange memorial event you will remember. Mostly old people.

We stayed at Gulpha gorge in Hot springs last summer on our way home from Branson. I wish we’d have stayed longer in Branson and skipped Hot Springs. The bathhouse row area is nice at first but it’s underwhelming at best.
