It's looking to be a great weekend ahead . My plan is Kirkwood on Friday, Palisades on Saturday, Heavenly on Sunday. Winds don't look to be an issue on Sat/Sun at Heavenly but Friday may be bad... 40-80mph winds

2 days ago, my sons and I rode up the lift with a Vail employee. He said they were opening China Bowl for the first time this season the next day. It wasn’t on the Epic app or on their website and social media, but we were early in line and navigated our way over there. Sure enough, it was open. I don’t have the skill level to go down the untouched powder areas, but we took the freshly groomed Poppy Fields Run. We were the first on the groomed section. I have a great picture, but I can’t get it to post.

We're going to try and get some runs in on Friday and hit it hard Saturday at Heavenly. All the guys I'm going with bought lift tickets for Heavenly only on Friday Saturday. Sunday is going to be our chill day to watch football.

First time going to Snowmass. Any recommendations for lunch at the base or anywhere in Aspen/Snowmass for dinner?

Poppyfields is the easiest run in the back bowls... probably the best run on the entire mountain to bomb down, I love it

Just make sure ski patrol isn't out to stop Straight liners

The stewpot is a good cheap spot(for Aspen) for lunch in the mall. Venga Venga had more of that apres vibe. I liked Slow Groovin BBQ Snowmass, had really good service and kind of a nice chill vibe. IL Poggio was also solid.

I stayed in Snowmass so I know less about Aspen. Bus system is really good though and it runs late into the night if you want to not worry about driving after a few drinks.

Kirkwood is on of my favorite spots. Hope to make it back there this year.

Fly out tomorrow to go to Mammoth for the weekend. Any food suggestions in the town?

Friday is not looking good for heavenly for the winds, hope you've got alternate plans if needed. Saturday/Sunday look great

Awesome, Kirkwood sounds like a solid choice on my end. I'm pumped to explore a few new mountains this weekend

Heading to Park City next week on the 16th.

This will be my first ski trip out there so trying to avoid any newbie mistakes..

Looking for any tips, tricks, helpful things to know that could possibly make my trip better..

Appreciate any and all advice!

Don’t unzip your jacket all the way
Don’t dangle your gloves
Don’t have a gap between your goggles and helmet
Don’t ski in a jersey

No worries on the jersey.

Silly question, is helmet and goggles necessary? Or should I say is it common?

Not against it of course just want to make sure I am not overdoing it.

Helmets and goggles are absolutely necessary. You could ski with sunglasses if conditions were perfect.

20years ago the guy in the lift line with the helmet got funny looks. Now the people without helmets get funny looks.

This is similar to riding a bike as a kid in the 90s vs everyone now.

Park City/Deer valley/The canyons/Alta
are absolutely insane right now. Problem a few weeks ago was no snow now there is almost too much. The storms seriously delivered.
Lake Tahoe the exact same times 10.
Truckee got hammered. Used to live in the Donner Pass and basically you could not even get to the slopes from anywhere.

Exactly..This was my main concern with helmets. Just didn’t want to look like the nerdy kid on the bike..

Thanks for the responses.

Wear a helmet. You are going to fall and when you hit your head it is going to hurt if you don’t have a helmet on.

Any other lunch stop recommendations other than Stew Pot?

My wife is a non-skier so I like places near the base where I can ski down too and she can walk up too.

Also, Venga Venga's menu looks great. Is it family friendly for a meal? You said more aprs vibe.

thanks,

Homerun is the best green run I've ever been on. Went during Christmas.

We ate at the mexican place at the base. It was fine. Easy to clip back in and hit the mountain. Venga Venga.

We ate dinner in aspen most nights.
Hard to recommend a bad spot. Just pick the type of food you want and check reviews.
Most of the places to eat are on hopkins/hyman/cooper anyway.
Meat and cheese, White house tavern, french alpine bistro, element 47.
All great food at Aspen prices.
