Flying out tomorrow to Jackson Hole.
Will be on the mountain Sat/Sun, Tues/Wed.
Anyone want to chicken out on Corbet's with me is welcomed to join.
227" by Jan 6th is crazy.
Only a little behind Alta and Whistler.
Nearly double most Colorado places.
They got 32" in last 48hours and it's still coming down.
Gonna be epic!

Landed in Reno after we just had a go around due to the strong winds, grateful to be on the ground. Picking up the rental car and driving on down to Kirkwood area shortly

Any other lunch stop recommendations other than Stew Pot?
Most of the time I just grabbed something quick at one of the ski lodges, there are a few places in the mall like Big Hoss Grill that you could meet up at.

Also, Venga Venga's menu looks great. Is it family friendly for a meal? You said more aprs vibe.
I think it would be fine for a family, it wasn't anything too crazy.

Kirkwood review/picture below- half day so far, 9 runs in and more to come.
Snow is iced over, groomers definitely the way to go today. It's been snowing all day with almost a whiteout over by the Sunrise lift so the runs are getting better. Zero lift lines so it's been an awesome day. Everyone is super friendly too
View on drive in
They have a frick ton of snow
View from the base area
Lapped the Cornice Express lift early as the runs were fast and good
Made my way over to the Wall
Took the Eagle Bowl which was iced over up top down to Chair 2 and then the Sunrise lift.
Lapped sunrise a few times then hit up chair 2 for a few runs and here we are. Planning on a few more runs early afternoon then will make my way to South Lake Tahoe for Heavenly tomorrow
Got about 7 more runs in for a total of 16ish on the day. More views of the whiteout
Ventured off Cornice for several of the runs, nicer snow over there
Made my way to Tahoe and got some views
Where you at Benoit? I'm staying here near the gondola

Why do people always shite on this? I think it's a good way to identify someone in the case of an accident. Makes you stand out as opposed to the hundreds of folks in generic gray/black Northface jackets.

Haha, I was just effing around.

“Travis Kelsey just smoked Patrick Maholmes!”
The last thing I’m concerned about is what someone else is wearing. Wear that bunny suit! For the record, I have a hard no man’s name on my back rule. By default it extends to skiing for me personally.

Heavenly review below-
Started off at about 20*F this morning, felt great to me but family friends from FL who were in town were definitely feeling the cold. Got in line at the gondola around 820am, lifts opened at 8:30am and we were on by 8:40am.
Made our way over to the Sky lift and got some awesome views of the lake and surrounding area
From there did two runs off the Sky lift and decided to head over to Nevada side as it was in the sun.
Lapped Comet and Dipper lifts about 4-5 times (Big Dipper, Dipper Bowl, Orion, Dipper Trees) before the lift lines got very bad (10-20 min). View from one of those runs looking at the Nevada side
View from the Dipper lift
Stopped in for lunch at the East Peak Lodge and when I came out my family friends were gone . So that gave me free reign to head over to Mott Canyon for some steeper runs.
View from the first run out of gate 1, got extremely steep after this picture
View from gate 6 on the second go
Went back to the dipper lift to catch up with the friends over at the bottom of sky on the Cali side.
Got to the top of Sky for an afternoon picture
At this point I was tired of lift lines and headed towards the gondola. Made my way back to the hotel and here we are.
Overall, solid day and would recommend for the views. Can see spending mutiple days here and still not hitting all of the mountain. I didn't even make it over to the California base, Galaxy, or Stagecoach. Lift lines got crowded but that's expected at a big resort like this.
Next up, Squaw Valley/Palisades tomorrow

Aweomse. As far as Kirkwood goes, best snow I have ever skied on. What did you think of the Wall? Did you go to the right of the lift when you got off or to the left past the skull and crossbones flags and go off the cliff?
Did you make your way to Killebrew at Heavenly? I've done Mott, but have never been able to muster the courage to do Killebrew.

I could see the Wall being a beast on a powder day. When looking at the lift towards the top, I did a quick right then under the lift and cut left towards eagle bowl. The shite further right and left may have scared me a bit with the wind blown coverage up there.
I did not make my way to Killebrew. Honestly couldn't even find it besides on the map but knew it was in the vicinity of Mott. Also on my own not necessarily the smartest thing to do, played it pretty safe today.
I was chatting with a guy waiting in line at the sky lift around 2pm and he said he went to Kirkwood this morning and they were so full they were turning everyone away. Glad I went yesterday
ETA: Pretty sure I walked past benoit_BayouBengals a few min ago. Were you + 3 bros chilling outside Flatstick Pub? Only LSU shirt I've seen since I got here

I’ve been in a lot of bad traffic days in CO. Today topped them all. 3.5+ hrs to WP only to find no parking. We took the kids to the tubing hill for a few hours, grabbed some lunch, then got a parking spot back at WP around 1:30p. Salvaged a bad day with 2hrs of fast laps.
I’ve never seen so many cars but everyone I talked to said the mountain wasn’t very busy. I think everyone drove by themselves.

Just got back from Big Sky.
It set the bar very high for ski trips in the future.
Powder with lots of snow, scenery, food, service, lodging, and the most ski runs in the country. I will say this, most of the greens there would be blues at other mountains and I skied a blue that should’ve been a black.
Some of the lifts had heated seats with LED jumbo-trons as you were loading.
Truly a trip of a lifetime.

Nice. I've got a trip planned to Winter Park so far, but looking to add another destination where I can use Ikon Pass. Anybody else have other recommendations for ikon pass resorts that are easy to fly into/short drive?
Steamboat & Big Sky are on my list so far

The traffic on Saturday was indeed awful, we left our house at 6:15, got to WP around 9:45, and then spent 45 minutes looking for parking, only to be told that there was no parking left... Got back to Denver around 1230. Definitely the worst day of ‘skiing’ this year for us! I don’t think we’re going to leave later than 5:15-530 am again until late March.
Today made up for it though. 21k vert, mostly on Mary Jane. Lifts opened at 7:45. We made it above 100k vert for the season. Woohoo!

How far of a drive? I just did Palisades Tahoe today and it was 55 min from there to the Reno airport. Crystal is 2 hours from Seattle so that's likely out, Mt. bachelor is very close to Redmond, OR (50 min) for a small airport.

I just finished up a weekend at Schweitzer. Highly recommend. Fly into Spokane.

Silly thought/question..
Looking at the weather for the next week in Park City, what do these ski resorts do if it does not snow for a week or so?
I know some places use artificial snow makers so is that the case there as well?

We were gonna go to big sky. But wife decided to pull the trigger too late and everything's booked.
We pivoted to jackson hole. But saved over 2k versus booking back in October. So, I can't complain.
