There's snow in the northern mountains but the coverage isn't quite what ya need at the resort for open terrain. Snow making is crushing what they can but we really need some natural help.

Hopefully a pattern shift at the end of this week? Sun angle is super low and days are short so we are losing much snow every day. We just need help.

Ski shop has been dead. I need snow for mental and financial help.

Man, I feel ya. I couldn't ski at all last year due to Dr grounding me for illness. I'm all better now (PTL) and bought a midweek pass to MT Snowbowl for the first time in a few years. Two seasons ago, I got in nearly 30 days, but didn't buy a pass. Now I have a pass and there's no snow and a chance I won't be able ski much due to some other shite.

Aaand, to boot (pardon the expression) I bought new Rosi Super 7s, AT bindings, boots, skins, and new ski wear right before I got sick. I haven't even mounted the bindings!

I realize these are white-people problems in extremis, but...

Anyone here ever ski Grand Targhee before? I'm sneaking up there tomorrow night for a few days...terrain is 100% open. Can't wait!

We drove over from Missoula a few years ago. Easy drive and we got a sweet place on vrbo with Teton view, for beans. The skiing was good if you hike a little to trees. We hit an icy few days so iffy conditions. Lots of ice in am then spring in afternoon. But that was in March so doesn't really apply right now.

How was it?

Drive north baw. I talked to JH peeps yesterday and they said they plan to be 100% on terrain by first week in January. They are 100% on lifts as of last weekend.

ETA: I am way down this glove rabbit hole right now and way overthinking this purchase. I need help bros. I want warmth and dexterity. I despise bulk in every way.

Hestra Army Leather Patrol

Hestra Army Leather Gore Tex Short

Hestra Army Leather Heli ski Ergo Grip

I'd be hesitant about any gloves that are mostly white, they'll turn brown by the end of a season from all the dirt. I've got a white ski jacket and would avoid next time. Personal preference would be for the design like the hestra heli ergo grip in comparison to the army leather patrol or gore tex short. Would much rather avoid the wrist strap and leave it breathable where you can tighten it if you want just by pulling on the plastic piece at the end

I'm a mitten man. Swany Toasters. They have a side zipper where you can slide your hand out. It comes with a built in liner but I cut it out.

Going on 200+ days of skiing with these guys. Holding up like a champ.

I ordered the Arc'teryx sabres. They look so much more dexterous than anything else. They're black, which means they'll stay clean. I like under the cuff and I know they'll be quality.

We got a little bit. No more than 4" I'd guess. Looks like another chance on Saturday night.

We got snow on the mountain, we just need a dump or two to really get this place rocking and terrain open.

Ended up canceling my trip yesterday(everything was refundable). Not worth the cost to go to Steamboat to ride limited terrain with the holiday crowds in long lift lines.

Long range weather models are saying last ten days off December should be good.

Man I hope so. I've been watching the reports for Copper and so few trails open this far in has me worried. We are headed that way in 3 weeks.

Joel is cautiously optimistic this morning for late December/early January.

quote:

I do not know what will happen next week and beyond, but the storm track will likely flatten, which should allow storms to move more directly from the Pacific Ocean into the western US, and this is what we need for snowfall in Colorado.

The storm track earlier this season has only been 'off' by a few hundred miles, thus all we need is a slight shift in the pattern and we'll be back in business with storms every few days. I think this is what will happen as we move into later next week and early January. While it's too soon to get super excited for future deep powder days, I am allowing myself to become optimistic that most of Colorado will be skiing plenty of terrain and powder by early January.

Bama how many trails do you think will be open come New Years Day?
Just based on your experience

They need tomorrow's storm to deliver for the big ski week upcoming. Pulling wind out of the NW over the major Co resorts should provide enough snow to get a bunch of the runs open. Plus the jet stream will be overhead to amplify the snowfall a bit.

The European and Canadian weather models dipict a favorable pattern for the Rockies for the next couple of weeks. I'd think post New Year's will be solid across central Colorado.
