Besides tonight, its looking grim here in Colorado through mid-December. Cold air coming in will allow for some snowmaking, but not much moisture in the air the next few weeks.
We might squeak out 6" tonight here in Steamboat. Only real chance for accumulation we have in the near future.

This weather is bull shite. I got 6-7 runs in today before lifts were shut due to wind gusts. Main run was moguled by 10:00 AM anyway.
Side note: Decent skier (no issue with harder blues & easier blacks) but I'd like to get a lot better. Not dropping the coin on individual lessons... is it worth taking group lessons or just figure it out on my own?

Figure it out on your own. Besides the basics, there isn’t really much you’ll learn in a class.

Winds didnt get bad here until about 2pm, but once it did, it was about 30-40mph and miserable at 20*F. Skied mostly thunder and sublette lifts today, quite a few powder spots in the trees and it's only supposed to keep snowing until at least midnight.
Sun came out around 130pm

Yep, very concerned I'm going to have to cancel my Mid-December trip to Steamboat. I have until the 14th to cancel. Keep checking opensnow everyday hoping the forecast will improve, haha.

I'd say just keep skiing. If you can ski with someone who's better than you, then you'll keep pushing yourself into new terrain. I feel like I got a lot better my first year in the mountains when I started skiing with other people, and especially when I ski'd with guys who were way better than me.
Where are you skiing? You moved to SLC or a mountain town right?

SLC
I'll be skiing at least 1 day per week, so some improvement will come naturally.

Day 2 here in JHMR: got 8" at the top and is still snowing today, was supposed to stop overnight but lets keep in going. Just hiked the headwall and realized how out of shape i am/how much 0' to 9000' elevation change sucks
. Snow was really nice up there though, probably the best on the mountain. Noticed some trails on the website say closed but are actually open like headwall, cirque, chute. Tons of powder around and the mountain isnt crowded today.

Rode the Gondi to mid-mountain and skinned to the summit of Mt. Werner. Earned some deep turns down Bar UE lift line. Super light snow. It was great.
Some much needed powder therapy!

That looks pretty sick, assuming that part of the mountain isnt open yet? How much of a vertical climb was mid mountain? I think i did 4-500' and had to stop 5 times on the way up

Yeah, it was on the closed part of the upper mountain. We basically have one run officially open.
We used the gondola to get us to 9000ft and summited Mt. Werner at 10,500ft. So we skinned about 1500 vertical feet. Definitely not in the shape I wanna be right now, but the climb wasn't too bad. We stopped for about 20-30 minutes before the final 500'.
Lift shack at the top of the mountain was unlocked, so we got to hang in there to eat and change gear before the downhill descent. We ski'd a nice protected, north facing line that got some decent windloading last night. Thigh deep in spots, and felt bottomless at times.
Well worth the slog up the mountain for 45 seconds of pure bliss. Decent skiing on the way down and then I had to dodge snow making guns and piles of snow on the way down the cattrack to the base.

Nice
Maybe, hopefully, we will start seeing some significant snowfall and more terrain being opened soon. Like fricking half of Whistler is open already

Day 3/Final day here at jackson hole: surprise powder day! It's been snowing all day and last night, seems to be another 3-5" of fresh snow today. Snowing below the summit, sun is out at top of sublette. Haven't hit a bad run yet
Top of sublette is sunny, snowing below

I wake up every morning to a new opensnow powder alert for Jackson Hole. You hit this trip so perfectly man. I am super jealous.
I'll be there in a month, hope I get much of the same

Snow looks like it'll pick back up around Dec 16th so hope it works out and the tram opens for you. They were running it but only for ski patrol. There was no one here the past few days, 0 lift lines and powder galore. Time to head back to LA unfortunately

Is the website messed up? It looks like they have a lot of the good stuff closed right now. Seems off with 139" of snow already. Is tram the only closed lift?

Website is way off. Headwall, tensleep, cirque, some of the chutes off sublette are all open plus more by teton lift. Tram and the midmountain gondola were only things closed, but its early season so that was reasonable

Went back up yesterday on the skins. Skiing powder under blue skies is life's ultimate pleasure.
