Agree. Spotify is is a god send.
spotify and even Google music (which I do pay for) doesn't have 15% of my personal collection. I have tons of rare music not on those services.

I guess using those streaming services is fine for people who don't care about music and are happy to be led by the nose to only music driven by favorable licensing deals.

I have 500 jazz albums and when I play them randomly the quality and breadth of music is 100x better than any shitty 'jazz station' Google curates.

I hear the same shite all the time on Google because they force feed you crap just like spotify does.

Have you noticed all the 'remastered' shite out there? Lol that's because it's too expensive to let you listen to the real album so they bait and switch some reimagined crap and you eat it up yum yum. It's close enough to the original music right?

Streaming services are a joke. Get back with me when you hear deep or rare tracks on those without explicitly knowing what you're looking for ahead of time and pinning a specific album to force Google to play the whole thing and good luck finding the real album and not a new shite version the streaming service swapped out on you.

You may hate what I'm saying but you all know it's true. You've been suckered.

And not once did you mention that you did that in Google Music in your OP.

I thought you meant your source files got screwed.

I can quite safely say that my "give a frick" level about streaming music is not nearly as high as yours.

For me, streaming is great. I can listen to whatever I feel like when I feel like it. End of story.

the next time you're listening to a track that sounds off and actually take a look you'll realize the artist re-recorded it just for spotify. A "special" edition.

Streaming music is like kidz bop versions of popular music.

I'll third Plex Amp. It still can use much better navigation controls, but I'm loving it.

A re-recording is a recording produced following a new performance of a work of music. This is most commonly, but not exclusively, by a popular artist or group. It differs from a reissue, which involves a second or subsequent release of a previously-recorded piece of music.

Re-recordings are often produced decades after the original recordings were released, usually under contract terms more favorable to the artists.

Re-recordings commonly appear in online music stores and streaming services, such as the iTunes Store and Spotify; the original recording may or may not be available.

In August 2015, Billboard reported that Spotify was among the streaming services influenced by "pay for play", in which labels pay for songs to be placed on popular playlists followed by many users. Daniel Glass, executive of Glassnote Records, stated that playlist promotion was "a very, very big deal".

quote:

In June 2018, allegations resurfaced after the release of Drake's new album Scorpion. According to users the songs of the artist were included in various playlists, some that were unrelated to the genre of their songs, such as gospel, ambient music and "best of British".

quote:

In August 2016, Music Business Worldwide reported that Spotify had begun paying producers to create music and placing the tracks on highly followed and popular playlists on the service. The production of the music, reportedly paid for by Spotify, was published on the service using fake artist names, and the motivation behind the practice reportedly due to creating tracks to "quality control" the mood of specific playlists and gain more favorable royalty rates than major and independent labels offer.

‘Fake Artists’ Have Billions of Streams on Spotify.

I don't understand why when I shuffle in a lengthy Playlist on Spotify it only plays the same 50 songs over and over again even if there are like 1500 songs in it. Does this happen only to me?

You can do this through the Sonos app very easily

in today's stunning news, the sonos app provides no mechanism to access your uploaded tracks in youtube music.

so yep, my 50,000 song library will be permanently inaccessible on sonos once google pulls the plug on google music unless this feature is added in the next couple months. What a wonderful experience this conversion has been.

if you click on 'my library' in the sonos app, you only get any albums you 'pinned' in YT music, not your personal library.

google can DIAF for this mess.

I like how you reference remastering (which admittedly can draw detractors in its own right) and then go on a diatribe about rerecording

muh cad used the wrong term

also remastering has also been used to get around royalties since the courts declared in 2016 its a 'new work' not subject to the original contract.

I really can't think of a situation where I've run into that.

I'm not listening to much in the way of old music.. mostly new music but some 90s and 2000s thrown in.
