Just sharing. If you don't have a dash camera you need one. It could be someone running a redlight and T-boning you, to wildlife or idiots. It's good to have documentation.

Almost hit a Coyote today DURING THE DAY. Coyote Ugly

Older is the deer that hit my car. Damn Deer

Things happen so quickly that even your thoughts of what happened are usually skewed. After that deer hit us, my son said.... 'I kept saying dad look out, like 5 seconds before you hit it and you didn't do anything.'

Here is what I am using, and it's decent but there are more expensive options available. I think the important thing is to get to recording.

Damn, do you Georgia boys not hunt deer? I have family in Georgia and every single one of them has hit a deer, some more than once.

We're allowed 8 does and 2 antler deer. I've never limited out, but a season of 5 isn't rare for me. We probably need a longer season for a few yrs but they're thick as can be here. Normally I miss those that cross, but this one was determined to hit the side of my car.

I've had one for at least a year and haven't caught anything exciting yet. Guess that's probably a good thing though

Dash cam video

Here is my dash cam video. Oncoming truck has trailer come loose and veer into my lane. If I was three seconds further down the road the ending could have been quite different.

Educate me on dash cameras...how often do you have to remove the storage? Do you store it and put it on your dash every time you drive?

I'm worried about making my car a target for theft if I left it out...

Excellent site for dash cam info.

There are so many features. Just read about them and figure out what capabilities you want and can afford.

I got a cheaper one (~$100) that had a capacitor instead of a battery to take being in 100 degree Louisiana heat in the summer. If I got another one I would strongly consider one that has a rear camera so I could record both directions. It would be easy to install in a pickup like mine.

It just records in a loop over the oldest footage, so you don't have to ever remove the storage unless you want to copy footage over to your computer.

I keep mine attached to the rear-view mirror all the time. I don't ever take it out.

I have a RoadHawk. I think it takes up to a 64gb SD card. It chops up the recording into 1 minute segments. When the SD card is full it starts to record over the oldest file.

It has a built in G sensor, and will lock files when it detects an accident. You can also push a button to lock the current file. Locked files do not get overwritten. It has a built in GPS as well as an external GPS that you can add if you want.

I've read good things about this one. Anker Roav C1. There's also a coupon for $3 off currently C1BDDEAL

I previously had a cheap action camera that had a car mode that I used as a dash cam. It worked great up until it started to get hot outside. It had a battery and the heat pretty much killed it. If you live in a hot climate, you definitely want one without a battery.

Check out the Owl Cam--it's pricey but great.
