Google Nest. No issues I can think of.

Don't go with Eero unless you want to pay a monthly fee to access all of the features.
I was troubleshooting my parents' wifi, and I could barely do anything with the router unless I signed up for a plan.

I had no idea about that so I just looked into it. fricking insane.
$100/year to get such "premium" features as DDNS, app and ad blocking, and "advanced security". Incredible.

It is hard to get those features in a mesh system but you can easily get all that buying something like a TP-Link that has full OpenWRT support.

Why are those features hard to get/find in a mesh system though? DDNS has been pretty standard (the config not the service) on entry level consumer routers for a couple decades, now they're paywalling it? Ad blocking is basically just a community-maintained dns blacklist. I don't know what they mean by "advanced security" but it makes it sound like their gear is insecure by default unless you subscribe.

Dunno. Adblocking is something typically only found on the OSS firmware like Tomato, DDWRT, OpenWRT and none of those support mesh products. You'd have to ask them why there is so little support for that.

I wish I had seen this thread a week earlier. An eero came with my ISP at the new house. I got the bright idea to buy another to extend my network since they had them for $49 refurb on amazon and I just need to get signal to my garage. I then go to the app and try to setup DDNS only to realize it requires a subscription....
So the eero will be returned and I'm on the market for a router again. I need to be able to RDP to my home PC from outside of my network.

I just added a Starlink mesh for the other side of my house. There were alternatives that would be cheaper, better, and faster delivery. But I took the easy way and just bought from Starlink since it's an extremely simple install using their app. Bought to boost my wifi for a Blink security system.

What is the range you're getting with the Starlink mesh?

TP-Link Deco M9 Plus AC2200. Haven't had any issues. Picked up refurb deal from BHphoto

The mesh unit and router are in opposite corners of the house - about 50 feet apart. Single story, 1,900 ft2, - I get good coverage throughout now. The corner with the mesh was 1 or 2 bars mostly before, 4 or 5 now.

TP-Link Deco AXE5300
2000 sf home. It works great. The backhaul feature is very handy.

I use eero but its to get wifi to a guest house.
So i have one node next to the router in the main house, one on the side of the guest house closest to the main house, and one on the completely other side of the guest house.
So ive got wifi in both houses and in the pool area/garden that separates the houses.

Amplifi from Ubiquiti. Works extremely well for my house.

Asus ZenWiFi ET8
It's been a very good setup. There was a brief issue a couple months ago when a bad update was pushed that caused disconnects. It was fixed fairly quickly. It's been fine since then.

I’m still rocking the original OG Eero in my house. It’s been great. Have multiple TVs, multiple audio zones, ring cameras, control system on it for years. Keep saying I’m going to update it but have had zero issues.

Orbi.
Every once in a while, like, maybe once a quarter, I need to reboot it, but otherwise it is stellar.

I have installed tons of mesh systems and Asus Zen WiFi is the best. You can actually separate the 2.4 and 5G bands which is huge

Would you mind explaining this to me like Im 5 years old? Is it better to connect some devices to 2.4 and other devices to 5? Thanks for the rec!
