The UniFi Express specifically? I haven't set one up myself but I'd imagine it's pretty simple judging by how easy the setup is for the Dream Router and others. The hardest part will be configuring the AT&T gateway to turn off its wifi and routing and put it in passthrough mode.

I guess I was just asking about mesh in general.

This is the part that has me frozen.

Every one that I've set up has been very easy. These are devices designed with your typical home user in mind and the apps walk you through everything, a lot of times with illustrations and such.

Yes ISP supplied equipment is generally NOT designed with the home user in mind. That said it's usually not too complicated and a few google searches should get you through it. If you have any specific questions, I'm sure someone here can help.

I had to do this for my sister (no pics, and she's too old for most of you) and it is really no different than getting into the old AT&T Uverse Gateway. There is a tag on the bottom, or back of your gate way that will have the username and password. The gateway has a dedicated IP of 192.168.1.254. Enter that into your browser and it should prompt you for the username and password. Once you are in it is no different than any other modem router combo. Just navigate to the WiFi section and turn off both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz radios. If you have any smart switches, dimmers, Echo devices etc. on your network, just configure your new router with the same SSID and password that was setup in the gateway. Restart and you should be good to go.

Almost ready to pull the trigger for new mesh system. Should I go for the Deco 5400 (3pack) or the Asus XT8?

I am worried that only two XT8's wont cover certain spots in my house, where as the 3 Deco's should get me no dead spots.
