We are a small business (have approx 20 email users) and the amount of SPAM we get is ridiculous. I probably receive over 20 SPAM attempts each day, if not more....never really counted. We are tired of it. We do not currently have a SPAM filter on our email and in doing some research, I see a Barracuda Email Protection product that may be able to help but I have no experience with it.

Has anyone successfully reduced their SPAM attempts using a this product or maybe there is another product out there that would work?

Thanks for any help.

We use Mimecast with good results.

Are you using a preset security policy? If so, which one?

Not to get too much into your business, but have you looked into hiring an MSP?

I have no idea! I doubt it, my IT company handles those technical questions!

I'm assuming your referring to a managed IT company, we do have one. I have asked them previously and they weren't very helpful so I thought I would look on my own.

Are they just drawing a check then? Email filtering is a pretty fundamental IT service.

Microsoft 365 has built in spam prevention. You shouldn't need a third party product if 365 is configured correctly. I'm willing to configure it correctly if your MSP is not. Contact me at .

Ive used Mimecast in enterprise but never small business. Do yall do international business? If not, should at least have countries blocked.

Hit Kork up or have IT decision maker meet with him to shop around your MSP agreement and costs!

I kind of wonder that, however, they do help when needed. I have my issues with them but for the service they provide and the cost, I don't mind looking at this stuff on my own.

If you're happy with the value then that'll work I guess. Thankfully you are looking into it though because spam is not only a waste of employee time but malicious email is also a threat vector as you probably realize.

As mentioned if you don't want to go 3rd party m365 has protection though you may have to bump up a tier or add it on to the subs.

I have sent my IT company a note to compare some companies that I've found in my research. Those companies are:

Mimecast
Mesh
Avanan

Hopefully they are aware of some/all of these companies.

If this is for a business, Microsoft Defender for O365 can handle this. We also use Avanan for an additional layer of email threat protection with good results.

I installed Avanan at my company (large enterprise) a few years ago. That would be my #1 recommendation and it’s not really close.

They got purchased by Checkpoint so they are now called CheckPoint Harmony Email Security but it’s the same product.
Painless install and you don’t have to change your mx records. Install is minutes since it is all API based.

You could also look at their API based competitor Abnornal Security, but we went with Avanan for some technical reasons.

ETA: Avanan can compliment the existing Microsoft 365 Defender functionality - it doesn’t have to replace it. We use both for a layered approach.

This. You are already paying for a spam filter with 365. Might as well configure and use it.

You need the additional Advanced Protection license for more robust spam filtering. We use Proofpoint. I like the idea of emails going to a third party first then 365!

Proof point has been highly effective.
Current dilemma with PP is that if the senders’ DMARC isn’t configured properly, PP is now sandboxing all email and my Helpdesk team has to manually release them (users are not able to release thru standard quarantine digest email). Outside of this snag, it’s been highly effective for us. We are about 200 M365 users.
