It's literally thousands of dollars per gallon.

Seems a bit fishy..

That’s why I switched to laser printers. Higher up front cost, but cheaper over time.

Google how to page reset/ink reset your printer. Printers these days just print so many pages/per cartridge and then quit, even if there is plenty of ink left in the cartridge. There is usually some funky reset procedure to convince the printer that you put a new cartridge in even though you didn't. You can get a bunch more out of each cartridge this way. (I have Brothers that I do this with)

Same, get one of the Brother bundles at Best Buy with the extra toner cartridge. Mine is a beast.

It took me nearly 3 years before I had to replace my first toner cartridge in my Brother DCP-L2550DW. They sell refurbished lasers, too.

It's such a racket. It made me pretty much give up on having a home printer. I just print anything I need to print at work now. I would gladly have one at home, but it became such a headache because god forbid I don't regularly use it, then the ink dries up or w/e the frick it's bullshitting me about and the $60 cartridge I just bought and only used once is already depleted. So their loss... priced themselves out of having a lot more potential recurring customers.

I don't know if this is still the case, but many brands would have chips in the cartridges that would tell the printer you bought 3rd party ink and refuse to accept it, so they had a built-in monopoly on their ink. And don't get me started on the printers that refuse to print something in black and white because you're low on Cyan.

It's no wonder the ink printers themselves don't cost much. They know they're going to have you over a barrel on their ink for years to come.

i got an HP bw laser only because it was on clearance at amazon and i had already researched you could put a $30 3rd party toner in and run it practically forever.

I use an old hp laser jet. I get the cheap knockoff cartridges from Amazon. They last forever, these are the long cartridges the size of your forearm.

Yeah mine doesn't print color. But I hated those all in ones that wanted you to change the low color cartridge to print. Can't do wireless printing either.

After my last printer was no longer compatible with the newest devices, I gave up on having a printer at home.

Now I just email to printandgo@fedex.com. I pass a location where I can print it every time I leave home to run an errand.

24 cents per page. In the last year I've spent maybe $12 on paper documents/pictures.

Huge scam and so many of those inkjets use all of your ink even when you don't print under the guise of keeping the print head damp so it doesn't clog up. Also those combined cartridges that won't print black even if you have a full black cartridge but one of the other colors is out. The keep tweaking their scam.

Printer companies are only slightly sleazier than Pitney Bowes and their ridiculously priced stamp machine rentals.

The thread is full of laser, laser, laser. I've printed fewer than 25 color pictures at CVS since my kids were born because I have only B&W.
