How much Internet Speed is necessary?

For one person, 4 devices, not a gamer, 1,000 sq. ft. Apartment…streaming TV, movies, etc.

30-300 Mbps. 300 is big family sufficient. Anything higher is just to extract more money for no benefit (yet). Always fiber but cable isn’t bad, but if you’re a heavy user avoid cox or else who may charge usage fees.

The rule I’ve used is 15mb per device for streaming video. Get the 100mb plan at minimum or 250 and never think about upgrading.

I pay $29.99 for “up to” 1G. At one time we might have 2 computers passing large files around, 2 big screen smart TVs streaming, 3 iPhones, and iPad……. The service is usually up and down near 500MBs, occasionally higher but not by much. I don’t need 500MBs however $29.99 is fairly cheap.

To think my entire data center serving 100+ corporations lived on an OC-3 (155Mbps) 20 years ago... Young people have never had to suffer with ISDN or worse.

I have 100 mbps with Cox and can stream movies on two TV’s and my son plays Fortnite online with no problem.
