I'm still running an OG Surface pro 1 with no problems, but I'm also not a numbuts user like most other people in this thread. Also have windows running on my desktop and HTPC, but I have run linux in my VMs on my home servers

Windows. No need to pay 3k for a Mac that I can build for 1k. You're just paying for the name. Sure, the quality is good, most of the time. I know what's in mine all the time and I didn't break the bank to get it.
I mean, in this scenario you're paying for someone else to build the damn computer

Just get the new mac. It starts at a measly $6k.

I've used both over my lifetime
The last 10 years I've been primarily a Mac user, but I have just built a really nice ~$1500 desktop that dual boots Win10 (for gaming and most tasks) and Gentoo Linux (for Linux experimentation).
Now that I'm using Win10 more, at some points I'm enjoying it, and other times I miss using macOS on my laptop
Microsoft desperately needs to start over with Windows like they did with Windows NT. They need a Windows NNT, if you will.

I built a PC 7 years ago. The only upgrades I've done since were installing an SSD and a free upgrade to Windows 10.
I put a lot of money into this PC back then, still running perfectly.

Both. Have a MacBook Pro I'm typing on now - over 6 years old and still runs like a charm. My windows hp laptop at work is freakin' awesome though - and it never lets me down.
I'm torn on what I'll get once my Pro goes out - and it will at some point. If I don't get an Air, I'll probably switch over to a Windows machine.

And this is what Windows users will never understand. MacOS does many things better than Windows. Ask anyone who codes and or professionally edits audio/video.
The hardware may be cheaper on WIndows, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

This is shut a lame arse take. Sure, apple has nice built in solutions, but your professional audio and video creators are using the adobe suite, which is on either platform (but mostly on windows due to better hardware support).

The wife likes Apple / Mac, I like Google / ChromeOS / Android / Linux but I keep an MS Windows computer in the house.

Windows hands down. No other operating system supports the variety of software and hardware that Windows does.

Yeah, no. For that price point I can build something that would run laps around that thing.

Hell, I mainly use my Ryzen for video encoding.

Both, I really like OSX a lot, but gaming is only viable on Win10. Plus, I like keeping my money and Apple likes taking it. If I want a high end computer, the only real choice for me is to spend much less on a Win10 machine.

I have a MBP and a Windows laptop for work but I have another MBP and MBA at home along with a Windows desktop for gaming. With that said, if I am just checking out TD or watching some baseball I will use my MBP.

You’re still focusing on hardware, which kind of proves my point. Some people prefer the MacOS so much that they are willing to pay a premium on hardware. I have worked for several companies that do this and I do it personally (although I buy a computer from them about once every 8 years).

Id argue that their not paying a premium on hardware but for MacOS itself. Generally speaking the specs don't matter to most consumers.

Yeah you said it differently but I think we mean the same thing. The hardware doesn’t matter as much because people aren’t using them for gaming. Obviously, hardware is important for other things but only the gaming community is truly obsessed with it. The baseline MacBook Pro is overkill for what most people are doing.
I will say MacOS seems to use more memory than Windows in my experience. I’d recommend 16 GBs minimum for anyone looking to buy a new Mac.

I've never really seen anyone explain what they really do better. I dont understand what can possibly be better when the hardware outperforms it. It doesnt make any sense at all to me.

You're in a myopic world where faster has to be better. Ever use software that you really like and a competing software you don't? Think operating systems.
