Apple to integrate RCS support in 2024

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users.
Apple’s decision comes amid pressure from regulators and competitors like Google and Samsung. It also comes as RCS has continued to develop and become a more mature platform than it once was.

Gonna guess there was an EU threat from this...
edit: opened up the article and yep

The elephant in the room is impending legislation in the European Union that could’ve ultimately required Apple to open up iMessage.

Well love Apple or hate it, it's bullshite that the EU is telling it how to run its business.

Ehh I’m cool with it. This is good for the consumer.

America is now 1 world by cheap China copies.
P.S.
Those cheap China copies should remain cheap using a universal standard for their mass copying now.

They probably shouldn't have replaced an established standard with proprietary shite when users expect a universal system and hijacked people's text messages after they switched to Android.
They could have taken many paths but they chose the anti-competitive and anti-consumer one, and tried to pass it off as the "seamless" experience that users want. The problem is it's only seamless if you do what they want you to do.

But they didn’t replace anything, sms and mms was always there. RCS didn’t really have any traction til Google started doing it for themselves, so they didn’t replace it as iMessage was already going before that.
With how many ways there are too digital message someone, there isn’t a monopoly here. It’s just European authoritarian nanny state laws, kinda anti American free market. Wonder how many for this claim to be Conservative lol.

Sure. I'll just require all of the iPhone users I communicate with to run WhatsApp.

you've clearly never tried to return an electronic item that didn't work and been told to eat shite..

But they didn’t replace anything, sms and mms was always there.
quote:You don't have to be a "monopoly" to engage in anti-competitive and anti-consumer behavior. All of those other messaging systems required explicit user action. Apple took what was an extremely well-established userbase of a universal messaging system and moved them over to their system, "seamlessly".

quote:No, it's recognizing that while capitalism and free markets are obviously preferable over all other systems, the aim or end result of this system in its purest form is not always precisely in line with the needs of the people. It should not be a goal of ours to preserve the purity of free markets. We don't exist to maintain the system, the system exists to maintain us.
It’s just European authoritarian nanny state laws, kinda anti American free market.
The US has antitrust laws too, and for good reason.

Nope, blue bubble vs green bubble.

And this doesn’t come close to violating them in the slightest.
RCS coming to iPhone doesn’t bother me in the slightest, it’s just funny how many people are like free market bad in this situation.
