Androids are now clearly ahead in features and a lot less expensive.

People say that, but iPhones hold their value much better in general. I got $250 for trading in a cracked iphone 6 last year. Also, you can still update an older phone. Basically, it's easier to keep an iphone longer and get more in resale. I don't think they really cost more if you play it right.

Anyway, it seems to me like the quality of the iPhone is superior to androids. Most people who I know that use androids replace them almost yearly, while I can use an iPhone for 4 years.

This says it all. The people who replace them yearly are doing so because they care about new technology and features. You don't even understand the advantage of using a non garbage browser, so you're fine using outdated, slow devices.

Different crowds.

Second reason is any video that is sent through text looks like it was filmed with a potato when it comes from or to an android due to size compression. Imessage can send and receive flawless videos.

Jones refuses to switch to iPhone, but this is one of the reasons I dont understand why he wouldn’t.

I’m not a fanboy, but I switched to android back when the galaxy s7 or s8 was new, and it was a complete piece of crap. The camera stopped taking nice pictures early on, and the battery life was abysmal after a year. Got the phone replaced through the insurance thing and the new one had the exact same issues as the one I already had.

I’m sure there are very nice android phones out there but you’re kinda stuck once you get a phone, so I can’t take the risk.

I've bounced between different browsers over the years. There's a constant battle among those developers to have the best and fastest product.

The larger issue for me is that someone has to support that seamless user experience. I had a guy hand me some iThing last week and tell me my website didn't look right on it.

On anything else, I can get to the bottom of the problem pretty quickly right there in the browser. I can see the malfunction and edit the markup / styles interactively to fix it.

On those Apple things, you get one idiot button and getting down into the technical details is extremely difficult. Not a big deal (that you perceive at least) but the economy as a whole is spending a lot of extra time and money supporting those lobotomized fashion accessories.

There’s a tech board for this, but you’re not buying an apple product for the hardware, you’re buying it for the OS and for the appearance.

I’m not buying shite made by Huawei.

And even that aside, Apple’s data protection commitment is light years ahead of what you get on an Android. That’s why android can offer the discount; they make it up on the back end by selling all the info they collect on you. I’ll pass.

We had Apples before the Mac (IIe and c), Macs starting in 1985, iPhone in 2007. But I haven't bought an Apple product since my MacBook Air in 2016. I'm not crazy about windows but the advantages of Apple products haven't kept up with price (or growing disadvantages, for my uses).

Sorry bro, my phone isn’t my life. I’d actually use a damn flip phone if I could (have to have email on my phone for work). People are too glued to their phones today, get off my damn lawn.

No telling how much money you pissed away just to get that little apple logo

Apple is expensive, but this is so dumb. I don’t own an iPhone because of a logo. I own an iPhone because after trying both it was my preference.

Wild concept, I know.

That problem isn't necessarily with Android.. its an MMS problem. MMS can only handle a small file size so the videos get compressed to Oblivion. The next standard, rcs, eliminates the issue but it requires carriers and other manufacturers to play along and so far they aren't. Google is trying really hard to get them to buy so far only I think only T-Mobile does.

iMessage has been using its own proprietary stuff and still doesn't play with Android anyway.

ETA

But I get it, it doesn't matter to many people why its a problem... Just that it is.

I don’t know. The new IPhone is supposed to be $300-$400 cheaper than the IpX. So not really sure what the problem is in price.

But many of the fellows I work with have phones other than Apple products and they all say those phones have their issues as well.
I don’t think anyone is ever completely satisfied with any of them.

Your name is “Geekboy”, you’re posting a thread about a piece of technology, but yet you do it on the OT because you know it’ll get more views than the Tech Board where this belongs.

So, Geekboy, are you just a fraud, a hack, a phony...or simply egotistical?

calling, texting, a little internet browsing, and taking pics. I don’t need a shite ton of customization to do those things.

Yet you're gonna spend over a grand on an iPhone?

You can do all that shite perfectly with a secondhand Motorola for a fraction of the price.

I don’t need all of the features on an iPhone 11 or on the higher end Androids.

My iPhone 6 works just fine if not for the battery life. THAT is why I may switch phones.

I've got the Google Pixel and I love it. I've always been on Android though. I like the Pixel more than the Galaxy phones I've had too.

And btw, android has been just as good or better than Apple for less money for a while. This is nothing new.
