What a kick save by Canada goalie. Flag came up after anyway but I think VAR would have found that to be onside and good goal.

The Nigeria player didn’t get a touch in the flick so player was onside

*Hand up*

I bet on Switzerland to cover the two goal spread against the Philippines, without doing a single bit of research. I couldn't sleep tonight and thought watching Women's soccer would put me to sleep and I wanted a rooting interest, so placed a small wager.

And then... I find out 18 of the 23 members of the Philippines' Roster are American born women!

For Philippines head coach Alen Stajcic, it doesn’t matter how many American-born players are on the team.

“I don’t really care where they’re born,” Stajcic said. “If they have Philippines in their heart and in their blood, and they’re good at football, then they’re eligible for our team. They all play for their flag, they all play for their country, they all play for the people in the Philippines, wherever they reside.”

Other teams apparently the same way. One of Nigeria's players was born in Birmingham, went to Oak Mountain HS, and played in college at Duke. But she's "Nigerian": LINK
Apparently women's international soccer is a US niche sport, where the players not good enough to make the US roster fill out most of the other 32 teams.

Wait until you see what the Nigerian men’s national team in basketball is like.

I’d assume us women’s college soccer is the most competitive thing out there for young women. We are the best. Plenty of women in the euro leagues come play college here then go back to their teams.

It’s not like Messi going to the Barcelona academy at 7 then making the sr team at 16.

I don’t think women have the equivalent of those academies around Europe.

If I could have gotten over there I would have. Free tickets not quite worth the expensive flight

Rapinoe is a mascot at this point for the US, wish she would’ve stepped aside.

Pulling for Sophia Smith to show out. She’s my daughter’s favorite player since they both play on the right wing and we share a name

So what teams are supposed to be the top threats to the USA in this?

I assume Australia & maybe England... thought Canada might as well but a draw against Nigeria is not a great way to start for the Canucks

I wish. Maybe then it would be entertaining to watch. She’s a woman who says she isn’t.

Germany’s been highly unimpressive to me since the Euros last year, but there’s always a chance they turn it on.
