Yeah, the media had no problem calling out FC Dallas fans last year for booing players kneeling, and this is significantly worse (and in a far more prominent game).

bullshite.

If it was US fans chanting gay slurs it would absolutely blow up in the media. It would be the biggest story for weeks on ESPN and lots of conversations would have to be had.

It’s insane Mexico continues to do this but nothing happens.

it would end up being condemned by the UN Human rights council.

I’m not joking

They spent the entire summer of 2019 talking about every political stance the women’s team took.

Looks like they arrested the guy who hit Gio with the bottle.

Will he also be charged with a hate crime?

I will be totally honest here, I have been to a bunch of international tournaments and I generally like the Mexican fans. But they always thrown the damn cups up in the air, often full of beverage to celebrate, express anger, you name it. They kinda gets old

That looked like a full 16 oz beer can rather than a bottle.

I’ve never been to a match between Mexico and the US, but I’ve been to several where the US played right before Mexico and I agree wholeheartedly.

People are too sensitive today, unfortunately. In pretty much every El Tri and USMNT exchange I have with an opposing supporter is straight banter and usually very stereotypical.

The only people really butthurt about this are far lefties.

Eh.
They’d be butthurt if it was the US doing the chant

Mexico did it and it’s basically been silent since the stoppage

Come talk to me once you have. The El Tri fans are nice until your team is playing them. You think they only throw shite at US players? Try being an American fan in a sea of green.

I liked you better when you were getting banned from r/ussoccer for saying “build the wall!” during US Mexico games

USMNT's Mark McKenzie racially abused online after Nations League win vs. Mexico

Yeah man. ESPN definitely just wont cover stories because of lack of interest. Only a CRAZY Q supporter would say otherwise. Definitely not purveyors of intentionally curated political propaganda.

Obviously it’s completely wrong and shouldn’t happen, but how many people actually tweeted racial abuse at him online? A handful most probably being trolls or bots. I hate when reporters write stories based on what some random arse hole on Twitter said

Let’s also be realistic here
How many weren’t US Supporters?
But how come that is more headlining in the story, when a game was stopped because of the Mexican fans chants?

They're so hilariously transparent/predictable. They'll report on the anti-gay chant, but they could not give a shite about covering the field with trash or throwing potentially dangerous objects at players.

It's all about the grievance hierarchy.

Mexicans consistently acting unruly and unsportsmanlike = Can't report this because we can't condemn brown people for poor behavior.

Mexicans chanting anti-gay slurs = Can report this because gay trumps Mexican in this instance.

If similar chants are heard at the WC now that will be a predicament. Muslims and gay folks are pretty close together on the protected chart.

100%.

Think about the makeup of USMNT supporters passionate enough to be that upset. Now how many of those dudes are slinging racial abuse around? lol.

Its fricking laughable.

Nailed it. Those guys won’t even order black coffee anymore because they’re afraid they’ll be called racist
