KC is a great choice--huge soccer culture there, as support for the "Wiz" shows going back to the early days of MLS. Great place to further grow the game, and convenient for a lot of fans in the middle of the country (MN, IL, CO, even TX). Plus Arrowhead is a great venue (if you can get there!).
But KC also has a huge Latino population, from old immigrants working in stockyards and agricultural sector to more recent for cost of living and growing economy (they actually build Ford F-150s there). Not that big a deal for Paraguay, but I wouldn't want to play Mexico there.

I usually get pretty excited to watch the USA play in the World Cup, but considering we've spent 8 years building for this specific tournament, the team should be a lot better than they are.

the tournament is going to be a shite show almost exclusively because of the policies of the current administration.

This is a well-beaten horse, but remember the last 2 cups were Russia & Qatar.

At least it'll be played in the summer instead of November

Been shocked at how little this is on my radar.

USNT is a joke. Whole organization. We could put it together some for a knockout round appearance. But that’s the ceiling. My biggest grievance is we are way less than the sum of our parts. And for years we were way more than the sum of our parts.

FIFA is obscene and incompetent for what they pretend their mission is. Tickets prices Decisions like only west coast games. With the exception of Qatar WC there has never been a more obvious cash grab.

I usually watch every single game even if some are at night after the house is asleep. I can’t even imagine being interested enough this time.

From about 2002-2014 the world cup was absolutely the biggest sporting event for me. I just don’t care as much.

1. I hate the expanded tournament size. Group stage lacks a group of death and too many of the matchups aren’t particularly compelling.

2. Spreading the tournament across 3 countries dilutes the event. There is no place that will feel like it’s the center of the world with this format.

3. The us team is kind of uninspiring. Not a lot of likeable home grown Americans.

4. This should be a showcase of America the great. Throwing a bunch of Hispanics into internment camps is kind of a downer.

I can’t figure out why I’m at a total zero.

I’m wondering if the auto bid makes it less meaningful in the lead up.

I think there is something to this for sure.

Part of the fun and gratification of playing the World Cup is knowing you had to get through a street fight on a cow pasture in El Salvador to do it.
