Anyone who isn’t super online who thinks that soccer is a gay sport for pussies would have no idea that the US men’s team wore rainbow numbers on an otherwise standard uniform for an exhibition game in June against Costa Rica.

This is a low stakes move done to satisfy a small and vocal fanbase and win bonus points with a limited number of activists.

I don’t know how this isn’t getting grasped. The National Team isn’t here to satisfy single groups or entities.

Would the cowboys change their numbers to satisfy the LGBT community? Why don’t you think they’d do that? (Assuming you don’t)

Didn’t all of the teams switch their names to Los Mavericks and Los Suns in the NBA a couple of years ago? It was really half-assed, not even changing the mascot names to anything in Spanish. Just adding “Los” at the front.

I don’t agree with that either, but why did you switch away from LGBT? My question was specific to that.

I think the impact on people being attracted to the game should be secondary, but I do think soccer's embrace of thinly-veiled political advocacy has an impact. We'll hear about how pride and BLM are not political, but it's disingenuous. Pretty much all the organizations involved in either range from center to far left and you're not really welcome in those orgs with viewpoints that break from the hive.

The reality list that soccer "may not be for people like me" - and I honestly accept that more or less, but it's unfortunate it's gone in that direction here (and particularly with the national team).

My state allows conversion therapy and allows adoption agencies to discriminate against gay people. But yes, I'm the chode.chide.

This state has also been considering getting rid of marriage licenses just so they won't have to acknowledge that gay people can get married.

My guess is right now they wouldn’t but they may in 5-10 years, especially as gay rights get even wider acceptance. I saw that there was a poll that showed half of Republicans approved of gay marriage this week, which would have been hard to believe 15 years ago.

All of these orgs hope to satisfy a small group without actually alienating a larger group, knowing that most of their casuals are going to be indifferent.

My attitude towards all of these things is neutral to positively neutral. I don’t consider any of this stuff heroic or brave but it doesn’t bother me at all.

I referred to pride month, not the rainbow numbers.

Pride month in general is way over the top in your face. The rainbow numbers is just one example of about 10 million.

I think it applies to all cases... I just dont understand how it could bother anyone, unless they have an issue with gay people.. You want to rainbow stripe cookies? I like cookies, but I won't fricking eat those...

Hell, I couldn't care less about Christmas but it really doesn't bother me that people celebrate it... And it doesn't get more in your face than that, in all aspects of life...

That's where we will agree to disagree because I understand completely why it bothers people. If you cant go on social media or watch tv without something shoved down your throat constantly after awhile it just get old (this really goes for most things in life, pride month is no different).

It only bothers me a little, but i certainly understand the backlash.

You are saying it is ok to stereotype people based on how they are born. I was fortunate enough to be raised by parents who taught me better. That is based on nurture, not nature BTW. I am sorry yours raised you to be a bigot. I truly pray that you seek professional help and better yourself. Until you do, hopefully you are not able to procreate or in a position to negatively influence kids.

Lol not really. I just like holding a mirror in front of people who are being moral high ground chest thumpers while not seeing the hypocrisy in what they are saying.

Gay/Straight - you be you, but don’t demand everyone to hop on the same wagon. Same with equal rights/stereotypes. Don’t promote equality while demonizing another group. You can accomplish one without doing the other…

Or we can talk about something other than rainbow numbers. Like center backs. Someone once told me center back is the easiest position to play, but it is hard to find really good center backs. I never really understood what they were saying.

Grow the game by winning games and playing an entertaining game. Not rainbow numbers and corner flags
