The rise of the MLS was the worst thing to ever happen to the USMNT.

In either case we got our second shot on goal in the 80th minute.

Add Arriola ... we really left some of our best young players at home for these guys? I’m another game or two from realizing we made a massive mistake hiring Gregg.

We actually had 3 shots on target in the 1st half.

Ah yes, we should one day hope to join the legions of world powers without a strong domestic league

Yes college programs and the nasl are way better options.

Someone on this board was actually dumb enough to upvote his comment.

I think you're asking the wrong person to explain.

I’ve been impressed with Jozy today.

The MLS will never be a "strong" domestic league. It's gotten just good enough to help boost the abilities of all the other latin america and shitty south american countries, without increasing our own talent pool at all. We have less talent than we ever have.
The entire US Soccer system has this incredibly mistaken belief that success in the MLS correlates with an ability to succeed at all on the international stage and they couldn't be more wrong. The entire focus should be on getting players to Europe and coaches to Europe, instead of training them in the cesspool of mediocrity that is the MLS.

Besides Sargent, who makes up our best young players that got left at home?

Has Arriola fell off in the second half? He did find the first half. That’s kind of the point though he should be depth at best, but we are needing him to be a big time first team contributor.

Seeing Sunil sitting with Carlos at the U20 game should be a reminder that nothings really changed, or ever will.
And yet there are still people on this board lapping this literal shite up. It’s pathetic.

This is a horrible hot take. The MLS academy system is doing work. Did you even watch the U20 team? Most of those guys came from MLS academies.

Your first paragraph is true, but your second isn’t. We have some great talent coming up, the problem is they are all 16-22. The MLS gives them chances to get first team minutes, and we won’t see the fruits of the new academies for at least 5 more years.

The only 2 things MLS is good for is improving other CONCACAF national teams and lining the pockets of NFL owners using it as a tax shelter.

Please explain..
The MLS was perfect when all it was a league to keep players on their feet until they could go to Europe. The issue is now it's "good" enough that players, coaches, and US soccer officials think it's a good proving ground to go straight into the international arena, see Will Trapp and Gregg Berhalter. And it's simply not. Every single player and coach we call up should be proved in Europe.
Conversely, all our concacaf lesser countries have benefited greatly from the MLS. Now the bulk of their players play in the exact same league as the bulk our players, especially bc MLS teams like to develop players from those countries bc they're cheap. This has played a large role in the increasing parity between us and previously much less talented concacaf teams.
