Agreed, we need to be able to not drain our guys in the group stage at the expense of the knockouts. Netherlands were always better than us in the ‘22 WC, but our starters were also on fumes from playing 250 plus group stage minutes to get into the R16.

We really need guys to start pushing the XI. Obviously, every team will have guys that are locked in, but in no universe should Richards be rewarded with another start after his last few matches. Need CCV, McKenzie and the next generation to push. I fear stagnation because of lack of internal competition.
Are CCV, Tillman, Aaronson, Pepi, Johnny, and LDLT not good enough to start against Panama? GGG needs to learn how to rotate. Our guys were gassed by the WC knockouts (albeit it was harder to rotate given the situations before each game).

I agree with you, Broski/Met, however only on the back line.
I think we are decent enough in depth when it comes to every other position but striker. Even then, Pepi has a penchant for scoring from the bench and applying late pressure in a match.
If we can get CCV and another CB/LB to step up, we’ll actually look pretty good depth wise.
I like that we are running the same lineup out based on what’s available. Hopefully Balo bags another, and Gio/Weston get more involved this match.

I think the issue here is that tonight is a must-win in the sense that you lock up a knockout spot with a win, so he's going with what is, in his mind, his best XI again.
But even then, I think I'd rather CCV or even Robinson over Richards right now.

quote:that was always going to be case regardless if we finished 1st or 2nd in group. Brazil overrated anyway, not scared of them. Just got our arse whooped 5-1 by Colombia though so that ones got me shaken but revenge in copa would be sweet for that ultimately meaningless friendly if we draw them
Even we get out of group play, we likely face Columbia or Brazil.

What is holding back the development of youth soccer in America? Is it the “pay to play” “academy” system? Youth soccer in America has to have more participation than other more successful countries. Why aren’t we developing them?

Our youth development has been stronger than it ever has been.
But the answer is coaching at the youth level.

Do the people, across any sport, ever actually sit in those luxury midfield seats at MBS

Multiple reasons for the lack of development for elite soccer talent, personally I feel that you hit on one of them with the "pay to play" academies which rules out a good chunk of potential athletes from ever finding the pitch in a competitive but highly educational environment.
