lol no it’s not. Argentina lost a group stage game last World Cup. Spain lost one in 2010.

And those were matches they actually cared played their top players / cared about winning.

Some of the freakout here is mind-boggling to me.

Turkey on paper is easily the best of the three teams we played

And we outplayed them today.

More shots, shots on target, more corners, more final third entries, more possession, but our backline anchored by shite arse Miles Robinson gave them some of the easiest goals.

I believe we WILL beat Bosnia-Hergezovina.
I believe we CAN beat Belgium.
BUT I think facing Spain in the quarters will be the end of the road.

And yes I would consider that a successful WC.

So they can never lose a game in literally the last minute and have you as a fan? OK then, bye. Best of luck. Don't let the door hit your where the good lord split you.

That's not what I said, but if the USA goes 2-2 they are not going to gain the fans they were hoping for. Hey I will be out the door way before it has a chance to hit me in the arse junior.

We are 14, 15 deep at the most. But I do believe those 14-15 can get us to the quarters. No injuries and no cards will be crucial to how far this team can go. I

Yep. They couldn't figure out how to break down a low block and it made them look worse than they are. Similar to the England v. Ghana game. We played a much more open game with them today than either Paraguay or Australia did. I'm honestly impressed our subs played them even in a game they were afforded so much space in.

The fact that you keep saying they’re bad kind of invalidates everything else you say.
Exactly. It's obvious his opinions have been entirely formed based on the scoreboards of the last three games and nothing else.

The biggest surprise of the match is that Weah sucked and Reyna didn’t have a break through.

We have been looking for a dude that wears the crest like Berhalter. He’s not elite but he’s becoming a more dependable sub that busts his arse.

I think we really exposed what we saw a lot of in the run up to the World Cup….unless we put our full A squad on the field, the dropoff is immense. That’s okay, it’s a reflection on where the squad is currently and let’s just be grateful we are pretty healthy going into the knockouts (especially with our top guys).

IF we get that far AND beat Belgium then yes absolutely! IF we fall to Belgium which is likely then it’s rinse and repeat for this squad

Weah was the worst player on the field. He looked slow and like he was agitated about something. It was bad to watch.

It looked like he was trying to play through a bad case of gastroenteritis.

Actually a pretty good chance we don’t even play Belgium. If Egypt beats Iran then we would play the winner of Egypt/South Korea.

Reyna looked unfit- tons of jogging. Practice shape and sub shape is a lot different than 90 minute shape- it showed

Even them Ream is gonna get raped if we face a team with some pace. He's good enough tactically to handle most threats but his legs are lacking.

The reason Ream is one of our two best centerbacks at 38 is because he reads the game better than anyone else on the field and it helps negate his lack of speed because he’s always well positioned.

LOL you think your opinions validate your soccer IQ. On paper is irrelevant in international soccer and it’s precisely why we are traditionally a middle of the pack, solid team. We have had several “great” players on paper and it has translated to nothing during the only tournament that matters. Turkey being given a good chance of winning the pool is more of a reflection of the pool they are in and not of Turkey as a squad. The US will not make any kind of a run with no depth no matter how much you wish cast

And then Spain most likely. I generally think Spain would think playing us in the quarters is a favorable draw for them but host nation status has to give them a pause.

Only way Belgium wins group is if Egypt loses to Iran and Belgium beats New Zealand by multiple goals

or

Egypt tie Iran and Belgium beat NZ by 3 goals

Most likely Egypt will beat Iran and that’s who we’d meet up with in Round of 16. In that case really would be a disappointment for USMNT not to make a quarterfinal run

So what results the next couple days are most favorable to us? Sounds like Egypt over Iran. Anything else?

Uruguay over Spain

Would avoid getting Spain in the quarterfinal

Which would be a great outcome for the US squad not having to face a European squad yet
