Very nice game today. They didn't lose a home game last year and we came out with a win. I'll take that every time!

I thought Moreno played well.

I'll take the win.

Most of the defense had some scary moments. Most of them (except Lovren) had some good moments. I think Matip did well with a lot of clearences. TAA with a great free kick and did well supporting the attack. I think he's learning each game here and I think he could be a monster in two years.

On Moreno - he really helps open things up for Mane playing on the left. Lets see what Robertson can do. Unfortunately, we need Milner at CM for now, but we'd better go ahead and buy someone immediately.

Complete lack of any creativity in midfield. Moreno helped offset it.

Salah should have done better at least 2 times. Firmino at least once.

Overall, there's still plenty of concern with our midfield without Cou or Lallana, and our defense, which looks panicked and all over the place any time something happens.

ETA - we looked tired a lot of the game - I'm hoping we don't trot out the same lineup this weekend and then against mid weeks against Hoff again. Those guys are already running low on fumes.

I guess I should qualify my comment about Moreno by saying that i feel realistic expectations need to be set for fullbacks. It's the hardest position to play well in the modern game. You have to be an expert defensively, an expert offensively, able to run constantly without tiring, able to link with your winger, able to press well....otherwise people call you shite. Really good modern fullbacks are just a rarity. So I take Moreno with a grain of salt.

Do I think we can and should go in for better? For sure. But considering the damands of a modern day fullback in an attacking system, he played decently today.

matip has been our best CB since he was signed, I say we keep him and try for vvd or someone similar.

I'm still not sure why Lucas isn't getting more PT, he's the surest thing we've got as a holding midfielder. And why the frick didn't we close the deal on Camacho already?!

I like Matip and think he's a very good CB... I don't think it's a top priority, but I'd like more than 2 top CBs and someone to challenge for the first eleven..

Lucas went to Lazio and Camacho signed for Wolfsburg...

After watching again last night, it looks like Lovren played Uth onside for their goal... though TAA (and Matip) needed to do much better to prevent that goal..

Yeah, TAA on that last Hoff goal didn't cover himself in glory.

You canNOT assume or demand the offside, you'd damn well better defend.

And he was definitely NOT offside (though the player that drew the early penalty was).

Yeah, its a Barca rag reporting this, but supposedly the-player-who-shall-not-be-named is going to go on strike.

“(The-player-who-shall-not-be-named) is ready to do anything to play for Barcelona and is ready to spend the season in the stands in an attempt to force through the deal, Mundo Deportivo reports.

Liverpool are refusing to release the attacker and the Brazilian is prepared to put his World Cup chances in doubt to play with the Catalan side.”

I say Klopp and FSG should still call his bet.

Agreed - Lovren played him onside and TAA did nothing. Put your hand down and play defense and let the flag/whistle take care of itself. I have no doubts Klopp will chew on him a bit for it.

Lovren almost scored a goal and had one really nice clearance of a dangerous ball, but I'm struggling to think of anything else he even did mediocre. He was a liability yesterday.

One other thought - Milner in a midfield 3 with Can locked in behind him, isn't the worst thing in the world. He can run, etc. and doesn't have to worry about the space behind him quite as much. With Hendo behind him, the midfield 3 is much more fluid and that's a big liability. I think Hendo and Milner can't play together in the midfield without opening some serious problems.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this... It actually worked pretty well and it's what I assume we'll go with assuming Hendo is out.

When is he not a liability honestly? Doesn't help that he's with Moreno on the outside (who also struggled defensively yesterday, granted he played fairly well going forward).

The combination of Lovren and Moreno is what is really brutal. I would like to see what Moreno is capable of with a dominating, solid presence like VVD alongside of him. I know about Albie but Im really reaching here and trying to salvage something because he is really good going forward. We really need scouting back fellas, the entire pre season I couldn't wait to see him as the maestro behind that front three. You absolutely have to keep him and talk him into giving us one more year holding up Suarez as an example. I don't believe any of that strike shite.

100% agree.

ETA - Albie looked a lot better when Sakho was back there.

With our potential depth issues, is sending Ojo on loan a good idea?

If he goes, I assume that means he'd be down the pecking order... he may have a call back option?

A physical DM who can play simple possession would do wonders. We need that rock in the middle but the last few managers have thought otherwise.
