re: Tim Ream. I don’t even know what to say.

The triangle of death yesterday was Freese, Richards, and Ream according to player ratings. All 3 were 4.7 or less.

Ream was a 4.4 according to my FotMob app

That’s what I don’t understand. How do we not have anyone better back there than some 40yr old MLS bum? This guy had no business being on this squad.
ETA: looks like Reams bf is on here downvoting.

I don't watch a lot of professional soccer, but my kids play recreationally. I've seen better defensive efforts from 10 year old kids playing local rec league soccer than Ream's effort on the third goal. That was absolutely pitiful all the way around.
Then, on the second goal, it's not like he was trying to defend Haaland. He was bigger and taller than the striker and had better position. He simply got manhandled by the smaller player which is embarrassing.
From someone that does not watch a ton of soccer, it seemed obvious to me that Ream was the most outclassed player on the field last night. He looked like an average over 40 beer league soccer player.

He’s 38 years old. We should do better in team selection.

Ream was obviously terrible, but I think he’s also being unfairly scapegoated when he was by no means the only guy who was awful yesterday.

I don't think people are making him the scapegoat, it's more like he and Freese's mess ups were much more obvious than the others. Other than Tillman, no US player should be happy with their performance.

He was who we knew he was and finally got exposed on the biggest stage.
Have to find better and build a better talent pipeline.
Richards was just as bad, if not worse.

Tillman had so many bad giveaways. I did not think he was very good last night at all outside of his goal (which was fortunately deflected).

We had plenty that played poorly.
However there was a very real path to a 1-0 victory or 0-0 at the end of regulation.
First 2 goals, he makes horrible plays on the ball. Despite being in position. 2nd was especially bad.
3rd goal, Freese obviously started the clown show, but Ream literally just had to stay still on the soft shot, yet makes a weirdly unathletic play and deflects the ball in.
4th goal, just stands and watches Lukaku. Legit looks like he’s on the take or given up.

I usually don’t like to pile on but that was one of the worst performances I’ve seen an individual player trot out in a while. He was completely out of his depth.

this is crazy seeing it from this angle

You could say almost the exact same thing about Richards. Richards lets the cross go through his legs for the first goal, he’s beaten for pace on the long ball for third goal that made Freese come out, and it’s his giveaway on the fourth goal.
Freeman had a terrible clearance on the first goal, let Trossard get the cross in on the second goal and played a part in the giveaway for the fourth goal.
Just don’t see the point of focusing on Ream when every other defender made just as if not more egregious errors in the build up to the goals.

That’s the thing about playing defense if ONE player is shite, it throws off the entire back line. Richards is probably constantly having to worry about covering for Reams mistake so he can’t focus on his main responsibility.
I’ve watched Richards ball out for Palace for 2 years straight in the best league on the planet. I can promise you, he’s not the problem here

Ream was horrible. It was everything people were worried about heading into the WC. Obviously, at his age, he's done.
The mistake Freese made was so bad that he HAS to be done. You just can't make a mistake like that.
Dest was a complete disaster as well. Mental mistakes at time. Hesitation at times. Over aggressiveness at times. And, all 3 resulted in major mistakes.
Pulisic, Tillman, and McKinney couldn't play up to the level of Belgium, but they didn't make major mistakes. But, for 3 guys that are supposed to be the strength of your team, them being dominated pretty much killed every chance you had.
Finally, Jedi was a disaster as well. That's a guy that's supposed to be able to compete at this level.

You could start threads on about 8 different dudes, because they all played at a level that just won’t cut it.
It was a collective effort and level that’s below Belgium.

Pulisic got bullied off of every ball, and didn't have any strength behind him. He gave up nearly every time he was challenged.
McKinney, I tried to pay attention to him, but he was forgettable for the most part.

Pulisic is such a non factor. What a waste
