Trump getting directly involved was a mistake. Have no issue with him directing US officials to help US soccer put together a “hey we think this was a bad call because of X, Y Z and we think you do have options to remedy under FIFA bylaws” dossier, but he probably shouldn’t have called Infantino directly,

The only thing special about you is the lack of testosterone in your body.
It should not have been a red. VAR DID NOT FOLLOW PROTOCOL.
The US played 60 min of a match a man down that was the "time served" even though shouldn't have been that.
Fifa fricked up on the review and confounded it by not coming out and fixing / owning up to it as soon as the match was over.

The fact that a Venezuelan ref can do what he did without an appeals process is corruption.

Everyone is bitching about ref decisions. Well, they did something right for once.

this Balogun deal is bs. Should he have gotten a red card? That's certainly debatable and I can see both arguments. But the rule for suspension is the rule. Did Trump call Infantino and influence the decision? I hope not. If Putin had done that in 2018 or a sheik in Qatar done that in 2022 to get a player to play against the US we would all be up in arms. Politics needs to stay out of football - period. Unfortunately with FIFA that sounds comical. We can beat Belgium without Flo and if we win now and Balogun scores a crucial goal it will be tainted.

Stop being a little bitch on this. Trump made the call like he should. The red card should have never come out. Deal with it. Flo will sit out another game down the road when it doesn't matter. This is why soccer is still stuck lower tier in the US. It is a game of chaos that fits how 3rd world countries are operated.

It is absolutely wrong that players are allowed to grab and touch refs without an automatic red card. In 2 weeks, soccer will all be forgotten about while the rest of us Americans are getting ready for real football (college and pros).

My English buddy just messaged me laughing saying he just watched Trump on TV explaining the rules.

Red card was BS. Should’ve never been issued.

What’s fact though is this is going to personally suck for Balogun for awhile I feel like and he’s not at fault in any way.

He’s going to be vilified for something that shouldn’t have happened in the first place that was effectively reversed by someone the majority of the world hates.

Wonder how his club games go this season.

The foul didn't deserve a red card and they certainly shouldn't have given him one after a slow motion VAR review and no card on the pitch.

Also, the US somehow getting the card suspended afterwards feels a bit dirty.

End of the day, I think the result is fair. How we got there is something else, from both sides.

My favorites have been hearing the pundits and everyone coming out now saying "You cannot desecrate the integrity of the game like this". Some of these were the same ones saying "It should not have been a red card" days ago. My favorite though is the "Obvious Red" crowd..."After being fouled by Maharemovic and being knocked off balance Balogun's foot lands akwardly on Maharemovic's ankle as he keeps himself from falling, that's a Red all day, now listen to stupid American's try and tell us the rules about our game".

When it happened, the overwhelming sentiment was it shouldn't have been a red. After we got it suspended, it shifted.

International soccer fans mimic their players - a bunch of whiners.

The VAR rules were not followed when they used slow motion for the Red Card. Slow-motion footage is for the point of contact or specific facts .
It should not be used for judging overall severity, force, intent, or danger, as slow-mo and freeze-frames can distort the real-time nature of play.

As far as the waiver of a Red Card suspension, there is precedent in 1962.
