Until the best male athletes in the US start to choose soccer over the big three (especially football) you will never see a USMNT move bound the quarterfinals. You can’t tell me that if you had guys like Greedy, Dev White, PP, TM7, LF7, Foster Moreau, J Hester playing soccer all of their lives with same dedication as football that we wouldn’t be a soccer power. The fact that you soccer geeks don’t get is that for every 3 “fast” US soccer players you name, I can name 50-100 NFL players that are just as fast , but bigger and stronger. There is a reason why the women dominate , it’s bc women’s soccer doesn’t compete for athletes with any other sport.

I know you’re getting flamed, but I used to think this too and I see why casual fans perceive it this way. The real problem is the lack of technical and tactical development here. Chris Paul would be a mediocre soccer player at best because there is no one to develop the most important parts of his game.

I've always wondered if Landon Donovan was developed at La Masia during his youth while Andres Iniesta grew up being trained at the U.S. Youth Soccer Development Program that their career paths might have been switched.

At this point, we waste the athletic talent we do have. We are already stronger and faster than most teams. We just don't have the technical ability.

All your big strong fast kids do play already. They have garbage coaches who think that is skill. Then they hit 15 with no quality touch, inability to read the game, and no composure on the ball. Go look up the best players in the world and their physical stature and report your findings.

There are no 18-22 year old “raw talents” or “projects”. By then you know the game or you don’t.
