do you think they could have the level of EPL and UEFA success that MC has?

lest we not forget that the success during the cheating era also produced this:

Etihad Stadium Expanded
2014–2015 (47,400 to 55,100 seats)
2023–2026 (55,100 to 61,470 seats)

which legitimately solidified some of their standing as a top revenue club

the original Etihad Stadium capacity for Football was 48,000, which is 9th on this older EPL list

Largest Premier League Stadiums
Old Trafford (Manchester United): ~74,158
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (Tottenham Hotspur): 62,850
London Stadium (West Ham United): 62,500
Etihad Stadium (Manchester City): 61,470
Anfield (Liverpool): 61,276
Emirates Stadium (Arsenal): 60,704

Mid-to-Large Venues
• Hill Dickinson Stadium (Everton): 52,769
• St James' Park (Newcastle United): 52,258
• Stadium of Light (Sunderland): 48,707
• Villa Park (Aston Villa): 42,918
• Stamford Bridge (Chelsea): 41,631

Smaller Premier League Grounds
• Elland Road (Leeds United): 37,645

that thread is hilarious

MC is potentially facing criminal financial investigations in all of this too

quote:

Potential Criminal Escalation: Legal experts have noted that because City was found guilty of deliberately falsifying financial accounts, submitting misleading company figures, and running off-the-books payrolls, His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) could technically launch a criminal investigation into tax fraud if tax on those disguised payments went unpaid

There is this weird, hyper-emotional reaction online where people are melting the frick down if you don't join in the melting and respond rationally.

It's amazing, made even funnier when it's done by Americans with no actual connections to the clubs

This is one of the most interesting sociological events in modern internet

hey slow

nobody gives a frick

you made the reference to this being similar to the LA Clippers and Kwahi scandal. Well what if this wasn't the Clippers but the Golden State Warriors? Do you think it might be a bigger story?

Yes and that's the larger point. I was going to make a similar argument.

The more important part of that larger point is that this is the ONLY way they would ever be allowed to compete at that tier.

quote:

lest we not forget that the success during the cheating era also produced this:

Like with Arsenal's stadium changing their financial future, this would naturally be a necessary option for any of these "Genie" teams, which would be part of how they sustained success long term.

This is all part of the "Getting over the hump" I was referencing

Clearly doesn't apply to me

This kills that argument immediately.

I've posted for about 10 years that the rule itself is bad and I don't care.

I wish the top tier didn't protect themselves to only have to worry about Chelsea and City entering that tier. I wish the EPL had 10 more of these clubs competing and expending the top tier of the leage. I supported Roman doing it. I supported Sheikh Mansour doing it.

Or just grow your club organically.

Guess who couldn't do that because of city? Oh yeah, clubs like Villa who miss a European spot because city are cheaters.

That's how you grow your brand. Not by inflating your revenues.

But your empathy for the Muslim cheats isn't missed on me.

Well, the Prime Minister (was the mayor of Manchester until about 3 months ago) just expressed concern about losing the Emirati owners. This is why countries shouldn’t own teams.

Villa is a great argument for how ludicrously unfair the current rules are.

Etihad is considering suing the EPL

Yea City is guilty as frick, nothing says we are shady like our state sponsored company wants to sue the league.

They should focus on catching Qatar Airways and Emirates

I have no idea why they would but it is odd they're saying Mansour juiced the books but didn't call in Etihad. How did they arrive at these numbers without looking at Etihad's books? CAS looked at them and said they were on the up and up.

I have no doubt there was some shady shite but the numbers they're throwing out seem too absurd to be true...especially without looking at Etihad's (and I'm assuming here ADUG's) books.

They cooked the books so they could invest and spend at the same levels as the big clubs. It isn't exactly Calciopoli. They broke the rules sure but it was in the accounting department.
