basically the rules were changed and owners were no longer able to spend their own money to supplement the club finances.
Unless they're giving the club an interest free loan.
Put the club in debt all you want, but don't inject cash!

it was proven that the club received money from fake UAE companies and way over valued endorsement deals from real UAE companies to hide that the money actually came from the owner.
This is a bit of hyperbole. The sponsorships aren't fake companies if you do 30 minutes of searching. I assume you're talking about the Wega one. it was 4M and other EPL clubs had similar deals. Yes, it was a PO box with no employees at the English office but it was run by a Swiss resident living in UAE at the time. It wasn't a big deal.
The other sponsorships...sure? Again, this gets in the weeds with "fair market value". A company sees an opportunity with a club that seems to be doing well and heading towards success and they invest. I'm not going to defend it but if City sucks going forward then these things are never even brought up.

f I recall their initial big agreement with Ethiad was the largest sponsorship agreement in all of sports at the time ($600M+ for 10 years) and signed in 2011,
You do not recall. 400M for 10. Still a record, but there's no reason to inflate numbers here, we did enough of that on our own.
It included shirt sponsorship and, at least in 2018 when I went there, plastering their name on everything on the stadium, shirt, gift shops, training ground, women/youth stadium and the tram that takes you there.

You can strip their titles in that time frame to accomplish that.
Sky-blue tinted glasses off IDK if I even do that. Players and agents only know the info they're given and seeing how things have gone up to this point they likely didn't know this was going on. Aguero signed at 23 and is by most accounts, pretty dumb. He got an offer and took it. He won a title. Realistically what are you accomplishing by stripping his accolades?
quote:
Saying they should be punished more because other teams are shittier at managing their teams or unlucky, is just not rational.
Correct. United has a -1.3B net spend the last decade. They've been shite. Arsenal is over a billion. Liverpool and Chelsea are close to a billion though over half of Liverpool's is the last 2 seasons. City is at 175M.
Argue accounting and "well they couldn't have signed all these players without cheating" all you want but you can't deny City hasn't been run incredibly well since Pep signed on. The last decade of success hasn't been built on money, it was built on a phenomenal front office. If it was purely money then United and Chelsea would have way more titles. If you want to argue Liverpool then I'm a hard maybe. Even then I think it was far enough removed to where they don't have an argument.
That being said, the rules are the rules and if we broke them then do whatever, but punish the guys that did it. Soriano and Khaldoon. I understand wanting to see City burned to the rubble but it isn't rational. Haaland wasn't asking his cousin to sponsor the club. The players weren't involved. The fans weren't involved. The people that have been working at the club for decades weren't involved. At the end of this the PL and City are gonna have to come to a resolution that both sides don't like but accept.

Before someone inevitably chimes in with the #s on the Bwin deal with prime Ronaldo at Madrid, that was shirt front only and not “name on everything” like etihad.

Why would city have any bargaining power at this moment?
Oh! Caused they’re owned by the UAE and that gov’t has threatened to divest billions from the UK. Got it.
Carry on!

I would assume if city had that amount of power it wouldn’t have even gotten this far

If my math is right, that story is 400M British pounds, and I wrote $600M dollars, it's pretty close:
£400 million was worth approximately $641.6 million on average in 2011, based on historical exchange rates from Exchange Rates UK.
So again, at the time, when City weren't any good, and not a big enough brand to support having the largest marketing deal in all of professional sports.

So City knew they had been found guilty and went on a spending spree this summer because they knew the transfer ban was coming? Exactly how you would expect an innocent organization to act!
Also, imagine doing all that cheating and still losing the league to Leicester. Outfoxed!

Their net spend was like 4th, hardly a "spree"
They sold 2 players on AMAZING valuations.

Tott should be investigated for what they paid MC for Marmoush and Savinho

Manchester City arranged "sham contracts" with a number of its commercial partners as part of a scheme to disguise secret funding of more than £830m, the Premier League says.
The League confirmed that City have been found guilty of all charges related to breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18.
An independent commission found that, during that time period, the club arranged the "sham contracts" as well as "relying on sham agreements to artificially inflate the club's revenues and reduce its costs".
Big fraud. Kick them out the league.
quote:
The commission's report said the charges "concerned well over 100 alleged individual breaches of Premier League Rules across four broad charge categories".
It also found the club guilty of all charges except one relating to non-cooperation with the Premier League investigation.
The sham commercial deals were described as being part of a "disguised funding scheme" to the scale of £830.69m.
"The relevant sponsorship agreements were found to be shams, or at minimum did not reflect their economic substance," the commission said.
It also describes "deliberate or reckless conduct intended to circumvent the Premier League rules" and that the "sham" scheme devised by City allowed the club "to avoid recording what would otherwise have been the largest single-season loss in Premier League history in 2009-10".
People want to cry about rules, but this is criminal behavior for any business.
City have until 10/2 to appeal and the appeal process can't take more than 12 weeks.

I for one think this is absolutely hysterical. However given how bandwagon their fans in the US were in the first place, they’ll just shrug and latch onto another team.

Strip titles
Fine the shite out of them
Relegate them to League One

-Strip ALL titles
-Immediate expulsion from Premier League with a 10 year ban
-Evidence forwarded to government for fraudulent activity
-Forced club sale and/or permanent and total Premier League blacklisting of owners and culpable administrators
-Investigate club finances post 2018
No need to worry about point reduction rates or bulk discounts...let them rot in the cellar. I hope they get sued into Bolivian and the EFL casts them aside too. Maybe they can be the next Wrexham in 30 years.

I think they also need to AI over the record.
MartinTyler’s “Agguuuerrooooo!!!” Should become “Cheeattterrrs!!” And the ball bounced off the post for a goal kick.
In all seriousness no one has doubted for a second how much they were cheating. They just never thought they would be held accountable. And the arrogance of the club should lead to a harsh punishment. We will see if it does.
