Well the great thing about this announcement is that we don't have to worry about trying to cap tie him. He is using his one time switch, so once that is processed he is USA for the remainder of his international career.
I think he can help deputize the LW role, which in my view is more than worthy of a spot on the plane.

The switch rules always confuse me. He switched from Germany to the US and then back to Germany in the U-17, 18, and 19 levels. Is this different because he is switching from junior to senior sides?

A lot of the youth leagues aren't considered competitive sides, so you can switch between them openly. The exception to that is if it is a FIFA sanctioned tournament. Since he has represented Germany at one of these, a one time switch is required to play competitively for us.

I would argue that the chances of him playing regularly for Bayern within the next 4 years are greater than the chances of him not.

You guys can bash me all you want but adu didnt know how old he was. Its like the shite with south american players that dont have birth certificates in baseball. he didnt have one. I personally believe adu is a couple of years older and was already reaching his peak. And of course, he played a lot here in the states when he was younger, playing club ball and odp. We may never have the resources that europe has with these clubs and their youth academies.
But Green can def be better than some of our more recent stars like dempsey, landon, reyna.

I don't think age has anything to do with Adu's flop. Regardless of age, it's apparent that, when you watch him play, he has some of the best ball skills and creativity among any player currently in our pool. His problem is that he is really small and is afraid of contact and that is a pretty big flaw.

Adu at 14 sounded like he was 11. If he was really 16, then he was the oldest guy in the world to go through puberty.
I agree that he was just a guy who hit his physical peak early, and his skill set was a very appealing and obvious one but as players got older and better, then the more subtle talents became more prominent.

He might get some time next year. Shaqiri is rumored to be going on loan to Gladbach and Green could easily fill in behind Robben, Ribery and Müller
