You skepticism is well grounded, but we were just going to bring someone like Brek Shea, so frick it.

I'll be happier if I get to see the guy actually play in a game. For any team. (Other than the 90 seconds I actually did see in the Champions League game - really hard to make any conclusions.)
It's just a whole lot of circle-jerking for a guy that 99% of people have NEVER seen play. That's an interesting "show of hands" question: Who HAS seen him play at least a full half in a match?

Guardiola, who rates him. I'm going to trust his judgement.

I have seen Brek Shea at least a full half in a match. And I know that even if he pulled an Almonte and convinced them he was 18 right now, he wouldn't last more than a week with Bayern Munich (I or II).

Do what you gotta do man. There will be room for you on his bandwagon when your body is prepared.

I've seen some games from the Bayern reserve squad. I think the talent is there. I think the potential to be very good in the future is there. I think he has the highest ceiling of any young USMNT prospect in recent memory. I think that if he is playing for us in Brazil, we will be fricked.

This.
Im excited about what this means for the future, not so much Brazil '14.

Because he isn't at that level yet. He can contribute, but people are really setting this dude up for failure if they think he is instantly going to be a difference maker.

He can't play in the final 20 minutes of a tie game? That's what I am hoping he can do. We are pretty thin in terms of good back-ups and change of place players. Bradley, Dempsey, and Donovan should all be good for 90 every game, but I'd like to see someone who can be fresh and play with them in the final 20 minutes. And I'd prefer Johannsson to not be that guy (I'd rather him either start or sub for Jozy).

Exactly. Have we ever had a player this young, rated by Pep as being worthy for a call up, with his training in Bayern's youth system? The answer is no.
Will he pan out.. who knows? Still some exciting news.

No I think he could create a moment of magic or two coming off the bench, I was responding to the people (not necessarily on this board) that have already begun to put expectations on him when he has never actually worn the shirt.
I'm very optimistic about him, but that optimism is tied more to 2018 and beyond, not 2014.

It would be silly to expect him to start in 2014, certainly. I do hope he can be one of our top 8 or 9 midfielders though, and not just be chosen to cap tie him.

I knew y'all would be red, white, and blue fapping over this news.
