Sorry for being a soccer newb, trying to get into it, support soccer more as I’ve become more and more of a fan of the Beautiful Game. But it seems a player of Mbappe and Kane’s skill can elevate a team to a quarterfinal level. How long before we have a player like that?

I would think a matter of time considering the athletic ability of our country and the growing support for football

Doesn’t matter how athletic we are

We need proper coaching and academies, the 20 or so free MLS set ups are not enough

Pay to play is also a huge hurdle we have to get past to develop players

That's fairly unrealistic anytime in the near future.

Mbappe and Kane is such a funny comparison. What a wild shift of the spectrum from one guy to the other.

I think he’s just saying a top 10 talent. He’s new to the sport. Otherwise he could have said Buffon and Roberto Carlos, instead. Guys who have nothing in common besides being all-time Stars.

Mbappe is clearly no there yet but the expectations are enormous. He’s already the third or fourth most expensive player of all time, if I remember correctly.

As for the OP’s question, Pulisic isn’t at the level of those guys, but if those are guys with expectations to be top 5 players in the world, then it’s certainly reasonable to expect Pulisic to be in the top 25 by 2022 or so.

So much of it is talent meets opportunity.

Unfortunately in the US, there is less opportunity between coaching, competition and training schedules

Not impossible, but just more challenges. US is built to pump out 22YO pros, not 16-18YOs who are superstars at 22

How is Pulisic progressing? Seems like the hype has died down somewhat. If he’s going to be a top 25 player in the world, seems like the hype would be increasing as he ages a little bit.

I would say he had an extremely similar club year. Better national team year but obviously a disappointing end overshadowed his best performances.

He is still top 10-15 on any list of the top players under the age of 23 in the world. A couple guys may have jumped him while a couple guys fell down.

I attribute that to them Croatian genetics. That baw is a dumbass anyway. He should be playing for Croatia, he would excel with that midfield. USA will just ruin him like everyone else.

Who wouldn’t? Best international midfield in the world.

This beautiful ginger says what’s up.

Everything about his game reminds me of Harry Kane. I have very high hopes for this young baller. Now I hope the Germans really teach him well over the next few years.

A bama and patriots fan thinks Pulisic should have played for Croatia. One would be hard pressed to construct a better douche bag on this site.

We don’t have the proper infrastructure and systems in place to identify soccer talent and future stars throughout our entire country.

Just compare it with how we identify the best baseball, football and basketball players. We have nothing even close to that for soccer.

We are still several generations away. I would guess over 90% of American parents today don’t care at all about soccer. It has to change with the parents and we need investments in training, coaching, scouting, etc.

Is this accurate/consensus? I'm not attacking the idea here, but I just have trouble placing Pulisic considering my bias and my inability to compare players among leagues
