Seems like the last three world cups, Germany has looked amazing until they didn't. They always advance deep into the tourney, then go out with a whimper.
Frings missing 2006, Mueller missing in 2010 didn't help for the semis

So this is pretty much the best possible result for the USA right?

Yes. Everyone has been talking like Portugal is some great team. They needed a Ronaldo miracle to qualify and looked mediocre in friendlys.

Yep. Two Portuguese injuries, one Portuguese red card, and one German injury, plus a massive goal difference lead for Germany and an obliteration of Portuguese confidence.

They were very good in Euro 2012. Took Spain to penalties in the semis.

Yeah, let's not get too down on them after everything that could go wrong did go wrong and Pepe lost his mind for the first time in a few years

I know that was a bloodbath, but Spain still won Euro 2012 and still should be as good as anyone in this theory. Portugal can still be a very good side.

What I really wish is that Portugal plays like this against us because they will be very tough if they are on.

That was 2 years ago. Spain had arguably the best run of any national team ever until their last game. I think they can still make some things happen this WC

I mean, I think so.

Technically, the best possible outcome would be for every game to be a draw... Fewer overall points are alotted... But since it seems a given that Germany will win the group and the best we can do is 2nd, we might as well hope they demoralize their opponents.

Was only able to catch the last 20 minutes or so... Besides Germany just dominating Portugal, and besides Muller, who else played well for Germany?

Gotze looked to be heavily involved from what I saw. Did Neuer look like the #1GK in the world? How was Khediras form?

Any weaknesses for Germany?

I have always thought the US can beat or tie Portugal... and now with the injuries and Pepe's red card I feel even better about going against them.

TIA

Think he was only tested once.

Missed an empty net. I don't think he looked great.

Hummels, who got hurt. Gotze, Ozil, Lahm, and Kroos also looked good.

Fullbacks. If Nani wasn't absolutely terrible Portugal could have scored a couple, I think.

Doesn't seem like ties are allowed at this WC, so I guess we just need to win
