Well they aren't mutually exclusive. And I'm fairly certain it was comments about the US that turned people against Rossi. I can't remember now. But the vitriol reserved for Rossi isn't seen by other dual nationals who decided to play for other nations (such as Subotic or Andy Najar, or even fringe players like Bakary Soumare and Roger Espinoza). Perhaps the vitriol is due to Rossi saying that he still felt American despite the fact he chose to play for Italy, and for his celebration against the US after scoring in the Confed Cup in 2009. It's not as if Rossi is innocent in inciting some of the hatred he has received.

Let him remain ignorant.

frick that little traitor bitch.

Also, and while this is complete speculation, I imagine he's lost out on millions of dollars that likely would have been his had he been a part of the US team over Italy. He could have been THE guy with the US, while at best A guy for Italy.

Anybody have an idea in terms of marketing worth which is most valuable, a member of the Italian national team, or THE member for the US national team? I honestly don't know.

definitely Piscinin on this comment:

quote:

Um, congrats I guess, I know those two Round of 16 performances will be remembered by the American outlaws for generations to come

i picture all of the bandana and american-flag-as-a-cape wearers on this board punching their screen as they read that one.

this is supreme level trolling by Piscinin. rarely does a thread not involving game day discussion get past three pages, and he has this one at four.

Eh, didn't like him when he made the decision. But, I don't really revel in his plight. It would be funny if he chose Italy and he wasn't good enough to get the call up in a major tournament. But he was good enough, just had bad injury luck.

Yeah, he was set to be the starter for Italy in the '14 WC (and probably the best non-head case attacker Italy had since Totti and Del Piero).

He was really coming into his own as one of the best strikers in the world at Fiorentina before the last injury.

These comments are not from Rossi but his agent and, like you say, and are simply based on the the hindsight of all the serious injury issues.
