FIFA have demanded that the Belgium team remove the word "love" from the collar of their away shirt, sources have told ESPN. The controversial decision comes two days before Roberto Martinez's side are due to play Canada on Wednesday evening for their opening match in the World Cup.

quote:

A source told ESPN that FIFA were not even open to negotiation and categorically refused to discuss the matter with the Belgian federation. At the moment, they have not decided whether they will accept the international federation's request. The news comes after England, Wales, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands abandoned the decision to wear the OneLove anti-discrimination armband in their World Cup opening games following confirmation that their captains would be given yellow cards if they took part in the initiative.

They should have never caved on the arm band, gave fifa an inch now they want a mile.

When FIFA "sold" the host to this years cup for BILLIONS, you bow to whatever QATAR wants. Sell your soul and deal with the consequences.

Yep FIFA does whatever the money says which is why I’d love for teams to troll both Qatar and FIFA

The only thing on their kit should be country and their play should speak for itself. No need for anything more.

This. All of this is virtue signaling of the highest order. If you have convictions, stand by them no matter what the price.

It's best to just get on the pitch and play the game and deal with politics in other ways.

Imagine having to have soccer teams wear colors to feel accepted and validated.

Leave this shite out of sports. Display colors somewhere else. Sick of the bullshite colors and I'm glad fifa is too.

How about they just play the sport and not use it for a platform.

Exactly

FIFA gave them the tournament. Don't insult their country and there is no reason they should acquiesce to the virtue signaling from a West in moral and cultural decay.

It's 100% virtue signaling. I don't think anyone would argue that.

But the level of soft, sensitive, pussified reaction to it is so overblown. If you don't like it don't watch. Who cares? It's just an inconsequential meaningless gesture. Let's all just roll our eyes and move on.

You're defending middle east authoritarianism? Man, once every four years this board turns into a cesspool. I can't wait until this tournament is over so these guys can crawl back to the dark corners of the OT.

No. While I don't agree with their horrendous treatment of homosexuals, I do think it's a weak attempt at lecturing another culture on how to handle the subject. Arab countries also generally treat women like shite but that never stopped anyone. Either don't host it in this country or shut up.

But in general the nihilist, soulless, childless, culturally dying West is certainly not in a position to lecture others on topics of morality and ethics.
