True, but the German program was in a dark place when he arrived.

He may not be the best tactician but these dudes lay their bodies and their hearts on the line for him.

And the dudes are finally good enough for the US to play with just about anyone. If he gets the top line talent in US player pool to play with this kind of heart and effort the next couple years will see the best USMNT to ever play by far.

This is what happens when you stop forcing them to go to yoga class.

Were on a hell of a streak. Nearing all time territory

14 wins in our last 15 games

15 straight wins against CONCACAF

9 straight wins overall

If we beat El Salvador, Canada and Honduras in WCQ then we’ll have our longest win streak in USMNT history.

Oh for sure. I just mean it’s relatively similar, except with less success as the actual coach of the US team compared to Germany.

But I think he helped us realize how far behind we were in terms of academies, youth development, etc.

Gosh. I’m so freaking happy right now. Beating Mexico is the best.

Can you list anything that he actually did to improve these things?

Twitter is cancer but I follow a bunch of people who post highlights of USMNT players, news on yanks abroad and such, so it’s been good for that

Looking forward to see his call ups for qualifiers next month. Some of these kids deserve to be on the list.

Vertical integration in the way US Soccer coaches tactics both in licensing and at the academy level. Directly connecting all of these together instead of teaching theory.

ETA: not to mention the restructuring of the whole licensing system and how the courses are taught. Better coaches = better youth players.

He’s not the guy to take us to the next level when all those guys are in their prime for 2026. But he’s for sure the guy to punch our ticket to Qatar

I doubt we could do much better right now. And if he punches are ticket to Qatar then they’re going to give him a shot in 2026

agreed. I'm tired of the tinkering or the looking for greener grass. If we qualify for next summer and have a good showing, there should be no reason for him to not continue with the group he's basically raising as if he's a foster parent.

Tactics are somehwat overrated for a national side manager. It's not like you have time to put in a complicated system given the limits of how often you get to work with the personnel for what is, essentially, their second job. You can't be utterly incompetent, but the manager's job performance is far more dependent on getting players to give a full effort for the country instead of club. Berhalter gets guys to play hard, and we've got some of that swagger back in the program. More importantly, our guys WANT to play for the USMNT. Tata's a better tactician, but international football rarely comes down to tactics.

It's why Klinsmann was such a poor steward of the program. He alienated just about everyone and he's the guy most repsonsible for the lost generation between Donovan/Dempsey and Pulisic/McKennie. He failed to get the best out of the guys he had, and he did a poor job of putting new players into the USMNT. He lost the players, and that's the most important part of the job.

I was with you until here. How was he responsible for a lack of quality professional players?

I think Jogi Low is the poster boy for awful coach who won with good players

He’s a World Cup champion and he sucks

Ironically, people were saying this about Jurgen when he got Germany to the semis in 2006.

The narrative after that was that Low was pulling the strings of that team.

Kind of hard to do that when he was the first one to win a World Cup since the country's unification.
