Indeed, propensity is not the challenge. Rather, southern Arkansas features a relatively bad high school system of mostly rural area with many small, dispersed high schools that make it very difficult to canvass, a chore exacerbated by a lower density of prospects qualified for mil service.

Anybody who mentions Fort Drum...
Fort Drum

Seriously, in thirty plus years of moving as a military couple from installation to installation, Mrs 45 and I found a way to make something good out of each one. Commanded C/210 FSB there in the mid 90s. Still have great memories of our time there.

Our favorite out of all is Fort Sam Houston. Probably retiring there in eight months.

Least favorite would be Fort Bragg which would be where (unfortunately) we own our home (which is now just a rental property to us).

I was an Air Force Brat

Lived at:

Vandenberg
Beale
Williams
Columbus
Ramstein (off base)
Seymour-Johnson
Nellis - (off base)
England (off base)

Worst was always the current base.

Favorite was always the place I had just left.

But Nellis was probably favorite looking back.

Nothing like those 6 month winters in the north country. Also, would never tip a true patriot's diet cherry limeade.

Marine Barracks Subic Bay Philippines- Liberty and cost of living. I had a 3 bedroom split level house, marble floors, mohogany wood beam ceilings, large fenced in yard, and 2 full time maids. $250.00 per month
Ts Tavern, Florida Club, Barrio Barreto
Weekend trips to Manila, Angeles City, and the country is beautiful.
The duty was awesome also. Guarded flag offiers. Ambassadors, nuclear subs, detached to MarDet USS Missouri. Freakin loved it.

I only had two duty stations while I was active

Worst: Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma

Best: Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri

Whiteman AFB had the distinct advantage of NOT being Altus, so it had that going for it

Fav - Corry Station, Pensacola. About three miles north of NAS Pensacola. Beaches everywhere. 2nd Fav - Mayport Naval Station (Jacksonville).

Worst and I do mean the pit of humanity - Portsmouth Naval Shipyards. People gettin shot/stabbed/robbed right outside of the gate, little to no access for recreation. Felt like a prison.

JBER in Anchorage is easily my Daughter and SIL’s favorite. They don’t ever want to leave. I have been on at least 15 bases and JBER is without doubt the most beautiful.

What the hell are those piles of red rocks, north of Altus? They seem out of place. Do they have a name?

The most miserable hangover of my life lasted three days, and it was because I drank a pitcher of Mojo at the Tennessee Club.

Best: Ramstein AFB. I get to travel to places I would otherwise never get the opportunity to see.

Worst: Aberdeen Proving Grounds. It was an Army base and a pile of shite.

Only had two stations. Keesler Air Force Base was my favorite I was there from July 1968 until March 1971. I was the only military person in my section. My boss was a civilian and all of my co workers were civilians. I lived off base across from the beach and had the time of my life. I spent my last year at Clark AFB in the Philippines where I worked 12 hours a day 6 days a week and 4 hours on Sunday. Easy choice for me.

Yeah, that's not them. The ones that I'm talking about, I think it's 3 mounds of red rock piles about 100 feet tall, right outside of Altus, on the way north towards Elk City. They almost seem man made, but they are huge piles. I've searched for info on them. I've been curious about them, but I always forget to ask, when I'm at Altus.

I don't know where that is. I just have to go through there now and then to make a delivery at Bar S in Altus, then go To Elk City. I really don't know much about the area, just curious about those rock piles. They are strange.
