One of those magical trips was Ellsworth, AFB in Rapid City SD in the dead of winter...That was not a glorious place to be.

Never served, but my BIL and sister were stationed in Minot, ND. They hated it.

So much depends on your command and job, so I’ll try and stay neutral to just the base and local area.
I’ve been stationed at:
Shaw AFB, SC
Holloman AFB, NM
Fort Stewart, GA
Fort Riley, KS
Fort Sill, OK
Kunsan, South Korea
Naval Support Activity Orlando, FL
Seattle, WA
Rock Island Arsenal, Il
Fort Leavenworth, KS
Fort Bragg, NC
Pentagon
and of course all over the Middle East which I don’t count.
Removed from the command, I would rank them.
Orlando > Fort Stewart > Seattle > Shaw > Rock Island > Kunsan > Pentagon > Bragg > Holloman > Leavenworth > Riley > Sill

Least fav (most miserable)—29 Palms for CAX work ups. Depressing wasteland of a place. Hot as balls in the day and freezing at night.
What, you didn't enjoy Lake Bandini?

I liked my time at Shaw.

Least: Ft. Sill Oklahoma. Lawton a typical base town. Bars, whorehouses and pawn shops.
Most: Geilenkirchen, W. Germany. Beer, Oktober Fest, get to Rhien Main AFB in Frankfurt put on class As and hitch a ride to any base in Europe. Just being in Germany.

Least Fav: Great Mistakes, IL. That place needs to be swallowed by a sinkhole.
I can see why the Navy abandoned Orlando, as it's nowhere near the ocean. But choosing North Illinois over San Diego as a boot camp? That HAD to have been a political decision during BRAC. That had to have been a case of some powerful Illinois pol threatening the Navy's budget if they closed Great Mistakes.

Favorite: Heilbronn Germany, spent 4 years there and tried to spend more time, Uncle Sam said it was time to rotate back to the States.
Worst: Ft. Campbell, KY 101ST airborne- To be honest I was hardly ever there. We were gone and got a chance to call home to my wife. Phone call about like this:
Her: Ring, Ring. Hello
Me: Hey what's up.
Her: Who is this?
Me: OUCH.
It was then I decided it was time to get out. They offered early retirement (15 years) and I was gone.

Awesome TDY!
You're going to think I'm absolutely nuts, but... if I had it to do over again, I'd volunteer for a year at Diego Garcia. I was there for a two week stint, and absolutely loved it. People kept moaning about the isolation, but I liked that. I liked that it was a tropical paradise thousands of miles from anywhere else and that supplies were flown/shipped in.
