They aren't purposely doing it (well God I hope not) It's just that in normal circumstances (or as normal as this kinda thing can be) you aren't answering questions before you have even had a chance to double check and double confirm every little fact.
And the check-in date... haven't they been reviewing videotape? Did they notice that they didn't have tape of him checking in?
These "mistakes" seem intentional. I don't think it's some huge conspiracy but the timeline seems like it was fudged to make the cops look better. It is still way too long to breech the door. The SWAT team took an hour to get there?
I am beginning to wonder if the cops shot the security guard.

I agree with all of your post except the last part about breaching the door. If you listen to the dispatch beginning to end it makes a little more sense.

i'm not jumping on the conspiracy bandwagon, but like mccgrath there's alot to be concerned about regarding the official press conferences given here.
at the very least its gross negligence not to ensure your facts before going in front of the entire world to spout off the latest.

WTF are you talking about? We're talking about 59 fatalities and over 500 injuries , with what now 5 separate crime scenes with multiple agencies feeding information to the press? If you think it's so easy to make sure only verified facts make it out, go get a job with the FBI or some such.

If the guy was just a crazy lone wolf who offed himself, is there any reason to withhold much of anything on this from the public? I mean, with a few exceptions perhaps for things that could effect future security, shouldn't we expect a lot more stuff to be released on this if that's the conclusion? What other reason could there be to withhold so much?

It appears the only real facts we know is the day and date of the shooting and those that died did so by bullet wounds. Everything else still seems to be up in the air.

Hogs, meet me in Vegas at the end of the month and between the 2 of us I'm sure we can settle this investigation to everyone's satisfaction.
I nominate myself for the arduous task of interviewing cocktail waitresses, strippers, and prostitutes up and down the strip.

Oh, for fricks sake! First thing you do ia go to the security office and view the tapes from the hall cameras.
The stupid mother frickers are lying and are inept. Why would anyone believe them at this point?
I mean really, the wrong check in day!?

quote:I'm pretty sure that specific, time-stamped events - like the exact date Paddock checked in, the exact moment the security guard to report being shot, and the exact time the alarms went off for the broken windows, all of which should reside in the Mandalay Bay computers - are not 'moving parts'.
“This remains an ongoing investigation with a lot of moving parts,”

The very first thing you do is check with the hotel and see who was checked into the room. Then gather every employee who may have had contact, starting with whomever checked him in. So you get the check in date at that time and should verify when questioning the front desk clerk. Heck, you should be real interested in the exact date AND time the guy checked in because you want to look into where he was before that time.
BTW, now there was a maintenance worker in the hallway before the cops got there. And he called in the shooter as well.
I can see them playing with the timeline to see if either the security guard or maintenance guy were involved, but that should have been resolved in the first 24 hours. I give a lot of deference as cops try to keep everything secret in the most absurd of situations, but goofing up check in dates, order of timelines, etc is just keystone cop time. Not having things straightened out 9 days later is unforgivable.
Pretty soon we are going to find out that the maintenance guy, security guy, and several maids McGyvered a bomb to enter the room and shoot the guy themselves.

Always tip your maids in a classy hotel, especially in a city once run by the mob.

The "Fog of War" is taking some time to lift.
Example - Benghazi, and the fog roused up by Democrats.
