To be fair, $200k is a pretty low salary in many parts of the country.
Struggling making a minimum payment on a $15k balance only makes sense if you're one or a combo of paying ~$5k in mortgage/rent, have 20 kids, are heavily levered up elsewhere, or are living above your means. But it's absolutely not a top-line issue

If she pays $1k a month she'll be clear in just 19 months
She's taking home something around $2500 a week...
Not hard to save 1k a month at that income...

Clarke’s Chase Sapphire credit-card balance
So she has a card with a $900 year annual fee

It’s not a $900 annual fee.

Live within your means and don’t use credit cards - this isn’t hard

Sounds like she needs an OnlyFans….
And/or a sugar daddy!

There are only 12 zipcodes in the country where the median earning is over 200k.
And that is household not individual.

Despite her $194,000 salary, Clarke’s Chase Sapphire credit-card balance had crept up to $15,000. She could afford the $572 monthly minimum, but with a 26% interest rate, it barely made a dent

We have a Chase Sapphire but it's only (only...) 18.5%. She must be doing something wrong.
She most definitely is. For one, start paying off in decent chucks instead of the minimum.
And anyone who says they can't making almost 200k is lying and not trying. Cause I just did it over the last year. Paid off more than what she owes.

No it’s not. Even in the most expensive cities, she should be fine. Can you live a life of luxury in a place like nyc for that much? Probably not. But you can certainly live a perfectly comfortable life. This story is nothing but a person who simply doesn’t know how to manage her money.

Yeah the WSJ is as out of touch with the average American as Congress is.
And too many Americans live in several debt because their expectations are too high and they seriously need to evaluate their standards of living.
Mrs. Axe and I collectively make around $120K/year. We have no credit cards and no credit card debt. If one individual making more than my entire household income can't even make minimum payments, don't expect me to pity them.

Not for a single person. “Pretty low?”
You’re a crazy person.

Balance transfers, lower interest loan, she dumb.
Hell get a loan from a bank for 15k, 3 years payments. Should be under 10% if you have assets and decent credit

I bet she lives somewhere with an exorbitant tax burden, then runs down religiously on election day to vote in the same scumbags that put the laws in that rob her blind now. I also bet she knows exactly how much over $50 an Ubered big Mac meal Deal is.
Her being upper management at her job means she "needs" the best parking.
She has an image to uphold and has to spend $400 monthly for car detailing. Make-up and clothes are cheap in her mind. She only spends 1200/month on those. 25% of her after tax pay is spent on car expenses and bullshite. I am going to guess, conservatively, that she spends $700 weekly on food.
I am starting to think her usual take home pay is already accounted for. Her $15k debt probably came from wardrobe purchases for special events.
Poor decisions are also decisions.

no mention of a husband or kids?

lol, is that a troll job or satire?
If you make 194K and cannot afford $572 a month, or even paying off 15K, you are an imbecile.

If you were making 194K you probably would chose to live somewhere a little nicer.....unless you are in the NE part of the Eastern part.
