In San Jose area I am seeing $8.90/gallon for renewable diesel.

It’s fun seeing some of the post in this thread, especially slamming the WSJ and while not providing any information as to what they printed was wrong.
Seems like these responses would be coming from liberals and not posters I know to be conservative.

There are no pipelines from the US Gulf Coast to other countries.
Just reroute the tankers to the east and west coast to meet our demand.

I know a lot of you guys work in the oil and gas industry so know a lot about this shite. I have a few questions:
- isn't diesel produced in combination with refining oil for gasoline? in other words they are refined out of same batch of oil? Or are there refineries that only produce diesel and refineries that only produce gasoline?
do we produce far more diesel than is consumed domestically? if true then we would have to shut down production of diesel to some extent if exports are banned? and if diesel is produced in combination with producing gasoline then gasoline production would be reduced, thereby raising gas prices?

You've got it.
There is no shortage of diesel in the US. We won't have the capacity to consume the volume of diesel that will be produced. We also don't have the storage capacity to hold it. Refineries will cut production of diesel which will cut gasoline production.
This will likely lower prices in the short term, but that won't last. It should be noted that Chris Wright (Energy Secretary) and mostly every other trusted person put in a position by this administration are warning this will be the fallout. This is why you don't have politicians making wholesale market decisions.

I don't know how this can be explained more simply
Also, remember the costs of imported goods will increase severely due to diesel prices skyrocketting outside of the US
