Maybe it will ignite a fire in the Europeans to take their countries back.

Circa 2005, the standard of living in the USA and Western Europe were practically even. Watching all these Europeans realizing that even the poorest Americans are living better than they do is going to be a wake up call.

You could be right. Smug eurotrash still think they are on economic par with the US and can lecture us on energy policy, immigration and free healthcare.

This always cracks me up. Those people have never looked at GDP in their lives, or they would see that the POOREST US state has a higher GDP than the RICHEST Euro country.

You crack up because you’re retarded. This isn’t true.

Just wait until they have to use a medical facility and receive a bill from a hospital. They are going to change their tune real quick.

It’s pretty entertaining seeing the euros amazed by our life style. It’s a wake up moment when they realize that the mass media is fake and we are clearly better than them

Read the statement that I quoted, and then read the headline in the article that you cited. Words are important. They mean things.

Throw the bill away, just like the illegals do.

America wins the GDP argument, but it’s not nearly so cut and dried as you indicate. There is a current argument about this summarized below:
quote:

Krugman’s Core Argument

The Tech Sector Distortion: Krugman argues that U.S. GDP outperformance is almost entirely driven by the tech/IT sector, which has seen massive surges in productivity.

Globalized Benefits: Because this tech productivity has largely resulted in sharply falling prices (deflation) rather than higher wages, those consumer benefits are shared globally through trade—meaning Europeans get to enjoy cheaper tech without needing to produce it themselves.

The PPP Finding: Krugman highlights that when comparing the EU and U.S. economies using current PPP, Europe's output per hour has remained virtually flat relative to America's over the last two decades. Therefore, Europe’s material standard of living and purchasing power have not materially declined.

The Critics' Counter-Argument

A wave of economists (including Philippe Aghion, Antonin Bergeaud, and Luis Garicano) has strongly pushed back on Krugman's thesis, citing several major flaws in his reasoning:

Flawed PPP Metric: Critics argue Krugman is incorrectly using current Purchasing Power Parity to compare productivity over time. They argue using real productivity metrics or constant base-year PPPs shows a growing and substantial U.S. lead.

Hours Worked Differences: Krugman points out that America's higher per-capita GDP is partially because Americans work more. Critics argue that for this to be a primary European defense, Americans would need to work more than Europeans today than they did in 2000, yet the reverse is true.

Walking vs. Driving Test: Critics like Edward Conard argue that conventional data and visible material wealth (e.g., extensive modern housing construction and generational salaries) show that America is pulling ahead in material wealth, and we should trust the "driving around test" over isolated PPP math.

Future Risks: Critics warn that by falling behind at the tech and innovation frontier, Europe is putting its future long-term economic well-being at severe risk

He should have said largest instead of richest. Point still stands.

No, the point doesn’t stand, because his statement is incorrect. No if, and, or but about it.

Germany has a GDP of roughly $4.5 trillion. Mississippi has a GDP of around $150 billion.

$150 billion is not more than $4.5 trillion.

You cited an article about per capita GDP. Fine, but that’s a different statement than the one that I quoted. Again, words are important. They mean things.
