Finland, the entity whose opinion actually matters, believes that they did.
I don't get the bitching. Finland, and eventually Sweden, will instantly become among the most self-reliant and most capable members of the alliance. There are no downsides to including them.

There are 2 major themes.
1. We must submit to whatever Russia wants, no matter how destabilizing it is, because they have nukes and may use them if we resist at all.
2. International agreements made by nations are "globalism" and bad, possibly controlled by the WEF, even those who oppose interests like the WEF and "globalism" (see: BRICS).

Sweden and Finland have been very independent over the year and not really a part of the West. Both see Russia as a big threat; however, thus their desire to get into NATO.
People here act as if this is all US orchestrated when it’s all a reaction to modern day Russian aggression. European nations feel threatened and they are banning together with us for mutual protection, and they also see Ukraine standing up to the Bear and wearing them down which helps their defenses too.
