WNBA All-Stars not wearing USA 250 patches on uniforms: 'Difficult balancing act'
CHICAGO — The WNBA All-Stars will not play with America-themed patches on their jerseys as part of the celebration of the nation's 250th birthday.
“No, they’re not on the jerseys,” New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart said Friday at a post-practice media availability at the Obama Presidential Center.
The news comes after a June report from Sportico said the WNBA planned to have its biggest stars wear USA 250 patches during Saturday’s All-Star Game at the United Center (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC/Disney+).
Women's National Basketball Players Association president Nneka Ogwumike, a forward for the L.A. Sparks, said Friday the report prompted the union to discuss the patches with league leadership.
“As players, we did ask about it," Ogwumike said. "I think being in a league where you're able to have that type of conversation with your leadership is important. You’re not always in a position to be able to question certain things, and our players own the fact that we have a level of autonomy.
"We also have individuals and communities that we represent, and we also understand our mission statement and what we stand for, especially from a union perspective.”
------------------------------------------------------
Las Vegas Aces forward Brianna Turner, treasurer of the WNBPA, criticized the idea of wearing patches during the All-Star Game after the Sportico report published in June. She said the idea must not have been fully thought through in a league consisting of nearly 70% Black women.
“No WNBA players would have been free 250 years ago," Turner wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on June 4. "The majority wouldn’t even have their freedom 100 years ago."

I’m going to refrain from sharing my thoughts lest I go back to ban land.

There were free blacks in the USA in 1776. Also, not all WNBA players are black.

Maybe they should go play in the west Africa league? Oh wait, they hate the very system that allows them to play a sport for work. Talk about lack of awareness.

Chances are, they wouldn’t have their freedom now if this country never came into existence.

Can't wait for this joke of a sport to go away.
I've never seen so many unlikeable "athletes" gathered together in one sport in my life.

Imagine living in a country that fought a civil war to, in part, abolish slavery while other places in the world we are told to admire still have slavery. Then, imagine that country has a whole month dedicated to celebrating your freedom to have sex with other women and be trans if you'd like. Then imagine you make a living playing basketball but that only exists because men have to subsidize your league.
And after all of that, you still find a reason to whine and complain about how unfair things are.

I'm against all things that would not have existed 250 years ago.
(These people are fricking retards)

Just look what they’ve done to the one player who actually had the chance to turn them into at least a somewhat broadly marketable product.

No WNBA player would have a job without massive subsidies from the NBA as the WNBA has made $0 profit since its inception.
It is a failure through and through, and the players have a level of entitlement and sense of self worth that is entirely undeserved.

The WNBA is a joke! Majority of progressive carpet munchers. I'm guessing it will fold within a few years.

This is the strangest collection of athletes..ever. There have been teams historically like the 'Oakland' Raiders or early 1990s Detroit Pistons where people hated them. BUT, those teams very good if not dominant at times.
Imagine some historically mediorce at best franchise with lukewarm support like the Atlanta Hawks working 24/7 to make sure everyone hated them. The WNBA is just amazing at how clueless, tonedeaf and stupid they are.

That's what progressives do. Ya know, equity and all that bullshite. They definitely won't let a white girl who is better than they are be recognized without punishing/cancel/destroy (pick your descriptive) that person.

Progressives hate America. This isn't a shock.

They should all be fired and sent to Europe to play.
