I think Lagoa would be a really solid pick. I think at a speaking event last year she had a quote talking about how in Cuba they have laws and a constitution but they mean nothing because the leaders dont follow them. This implies to me she would be a textualist.

Look, if Trump wins in November he will very possibly have 2, maybe 3, more picks before the end of his second term. Alito and Thomas are both old and should retire to allow young conservatives to take their places. It's even possible Breyer could croak (after all, he's over 80 years old).
Amy will eventually be on the court if Trump wins in November.

But, I believe the "politics" is overblown. This close to the election, I do not believe any significant numbers will be swayed by "ooooh...he just nominated a Latin chick!"
I just don't believe the needle will be moved by very much at all

Lol. Everybody overthinks this. Whoever he picks, the Professional Left will savage. Because that’s their nature- they destroy people and things for fun. So what matters is picking the single most qualified, ethical and principled Originalist and then riding with them.

I keep hearing Dims acknowledge that selecting a woman of Cuban heritage would help Trump in the election.
I have not heard one pundit express an opinion that the choice would hurt Trump because his base is racist. It hasnt crossed their twisted little minds because they know the truth is we care about the nominee's judicial outlook, not her skin color.

RBG was a far left Justice and voted as such. I think Trump should make the move about getting someone in that if (when) the left attacks they will be doing so to their own detriment like Barbara. This still shifts the court significantly to the right from where it was and even moreso from where it could be if Biden gets the pick.

No, and for a simple reason. The last 100 times Trump made a decision it turned out to be fine with me. Odds are that the next decision he makes will be just fine.

In short - If Trump loses the Senate, he would be more likely to get Lagoa thru a D Senate than an R Senate. So maybe he keeps Lagoa in his pocket just in case.

If Dem's wouldn't overreact, ACB could be a really bad choice as she's the most polarizing. But we can always count of Dems overreacting so they will shoot themselves in the foot there.
