They are nothing more than barnacles living off our back.

Cana-who?
I'm more concerned that lunatic authoritarian Marxists have taken over what once was a pretty chill country.
That sucks. But beyond that, don't care.

Canadians have not been liked by Americans for many years before Trump took office.
You should also say deep down inside, even when they winter here, Canadians don't like Americans. They resent us. Trump just got it out in the open. Yeah, they liked Joe Biden and his ilk.

How will we be able to tell?

Canadian tourism being down at least 50% and really hurting tourism in the state..

As such it's less than 2% of all tourism in Florida.
I don’t think their real impact will be felt until the winter hits because they are much more than 2% of the snowbird crowd.
Whether it’s economic or boycott driven is up for debate, but it’s also not going to make or break most people from a revenue standpoint unless they had established long term returning guests that are impacted.

If you’d been in Florida for any amount of time you would know that the Canadians come in the winter, not the summer.
My best good friend who has a winter home in the Keys, knows they are down there and he'd be fine if they went somewhere else. This past winter he'd see them driving around with little Canadian flags attached to the outside of the cars. I guess that was a subtle elbows up.

The fooking FL state troopers are supposed to ticket left lane campers, but have chosen, up until this year to ignore it.

Madeira Beach and John's Pass
I live here. Our community had 2 sets of Canadians sell their house claiming they were “elbows up”. Dumb fricks both bought new houses. One in Bradenton and the other in Wesley Chapel.
Canadians don’t come in Summer. They are snowbirds and show up in October-Easter. There was no lack of them last winter.

Canada needs to understand that all we want is FAIR and free trade. What sort of idiots do they think we are where they can tarriff and tax our goods so much that it essentially closes the market, but we're supposed to let their goods flow the the US without restriction. Eastern Canada better figure out two things real quick.
1. How can they mend the relationship with the US real quick - because as Trump says - they have no cards.
2. How are they going to change their policies to prevent secession of the Western Provinces to be independent, or to join the US.

Canada nor Mexico are allies, and we can do without either of them.

Frick em. I will take there syrup but that's about all. We need nothing else. Hell we don't even need the syrup. Canada better be very very careful. As Trump is getting more companies to build factories and cut out environmental regulations the products we do trade with them we may not need anymore.

I think that's what has everyone in the tourist industry in Tampa / St. Pete / Clearwater / John's Pass concerned. They saw the softness this summer in demand and the lack of Canadian tourists. It's an inconvenience right now.
Winter is when the real impact is felt by Canadians. I would easily say 15-20% of snowbirds on the west coast, from Sarasota down to Naples, are Canadians.
This winter I think will be interesting for southwest Florida. With that said, it could be good. Ask anyone who lives in southwest Florida during "season", good luck getting into any restaurants. All the snowbirds get there at 4:00 or 4:30 before regular people and they are there for hours.

quote:I think you hit the nail on the head. Canada behaves like a bratty little brother, sticks its tongue out at the bullies and hides behind big brother USA’s shadow knowing the bullies won’t touch them.
the point they've always taken advantage of. Knowing we will never truly let anything bad ever happen military to Canada knowing that if another power takes Canada, then it's suddenly a big problem for us. To me that's where Canada has truly abused the relationship with the U.S.

The other thing I don't think Canadians are thinking about. If the U.S. pulls military support, they will have to spend billions to build up their own military.
But who's going to attack them? Greenland? The Eskimos?
They enjoy the same protection that a teacup chihuahua chained up next to a Rottweiler gets.
They can bark and snap all they want. But that's not the reason someone hasn't kicked them yet.
We are their only real, feasible danger.

This is where you lost me. I live in Florida and every day I wish the Canadians would quit coming down here and ruining my state let them stay up there all winter long it is better for us anyway

Calm down, Canada can't stay mad at the USA. They are too dependent on the USA.

The irony is, from the knowledge, it's their own government doing this. The liquor stores, which from what I know, are either all or almost all government owned. And they simply aren't allowing the liquor stores to stock any alcohol from America. Now did they blame their government for this? Or in their eyes was it Trump's fault?
If they’re smart they’ll blame their government.
If they’re stupid they’ll blame Trump.
