I would never support a politician that is so weak that he "commits" to something because someone asked him to. He may say "I oppose the war and will use any means necessary to find a negotiated solution". While that sounds so non-commital - it's also common sense. He knows the direction he "wants" to go, but does not have all the facts. And with a response like that, all options are still available to him to find the best resolution.

If he becomes President, then he'll be briefed, have a better understanding of the issue - then make a decision. It's like asking a politician to commit to support the results of the election before it takes place - even though no one knows how much cheating will take place and be uncovered.

It's a stupid ask, and it's even more stupid to actually commit.

You cannot explain reasonable positions to these people.

They are extremists who will take no nuance or thoughtfulness.

Has he actually taken any positions on these national issues? For those of you on team BDR have you considered these foreign policy positions? You shouldn't blindly support anyone, DJT included- that disincentivizes them from actually following through

You are 100% correct. Things need to shake out. Positions need to be taken. Candidates have to be vetted. There’s a long way to go before the first Republican debate.

It’s my opinion though that the focus should be on beating Biden and to do that we need to stick together for now and not fight as if one candidate or another is the answer.

Hopefully.

But will we still be giving them money after it’s over?

It is not within his purview. He has no control over those things as Governor of Florida.

100% agree. But you guys are playing coy.

This board wants Ron desantis to run for president. These threads aren’t popping up talking about him running Florida, it’s about him running the country.

Desantis is the way forward!

What are his policies?

He’s the governor of Florida how should I know?

Very fair question…..which we should learn when he officially announces he’s running.

Until then and regardless of our own conjecture and speculations, we might as well be demanding the foreign policy stances of all the governors.

When he's asking for my vote, he needs to let me know he's not dragging my nation to war.

Russians don't understand how the US government is set up. This is a just registered new poster asking whether Desantis will try to cut off aid to Ukraine. It's obvious this is either a troll or someone who is incredibly ignorant of American politics.

DeSantis is one of the biggest suckers of Israeli cock out there. It is my biggest misgiving with him.

Not sure what his stance lately with Ukraine has been but early on he criticized Biden for not being tougher on Russia and that we needed to do more for Ukraine.

Also not a fan of that.

With that said, he still is the obvious choice of who we should support as I believe he has the best balance between giving the GOP the best chance to win in 24, and having overall acceptable policies.

That is how you have to approach political candidates, you must weigh out all aspects and discern what produces the best net outcome. It requires thought, not even an unreasonable amount, just a little.

I know what his policies are as the Governor of Florida, and they are fricking awesome.

Domestic policy means way more to me than all of this other shite, but judging his policy so far, I expect I will agree with his foreign policy.

If it comes out that I do not, I will adjust my support.

Trump is no longer a consideration. He's 80 years old. He's done.

Do you think these questions won't come up in primaries? That he will just say "I'll let you know later"?

How did "He kept us out of war!" work for Woodrow Wilson's supporters after they elected him to a second term?

I don't know. I was going to ask my grandpa, but he died twenty years ago.

Desantis is George W Bush 2.0. He also talks about how much he admires John McCain.

If this neocon is the new party standard bearer then I am out.

I went along with the W bullshite 20 years ago and have been angry with myself ever since.

I will never vote for a neocon again.

Be specific.

Federalism is a foreign concept to most of the world.

Remember back a few decades to when Texas was about to execute some Mexican citizen, and the Mexican government just could not grasp that the POTUS had zero authority regarding Texas enforcing Texas’ criminal laws.

I guess we're not debating Desantis as a presidential candidate on this board. My mistake. I would have sworn...

*leaves to do a search for desantis on the PT*

Hey...
